Police Station: Wednesday

Dale was up to his ears in paperwork and convention planning activities. Add to that the power outage and you had a very busy day indeed.

However thanks to Dale's earlier disaster planning sessions with Renee, the office was currently with power and heat due to the timely purchase of a power generator.

And more importantly was the new coffee machine. The one that was being installed right now by the finest coffee machine installers available. It was big. It was shiny. It had a coffee grinder built onto the side for the freshest and most precise grind possible. It also allowed you to brew three coffee pots at the same time.

He even had one brewer set up to brew only "bad" coffee and was labeled as such.

And on the other side of the coffee machine was an M&M dispenser.

Dale had stopped all his paperwork and convention planning just to enjoy the sight of such a beautiful and wonderful machine.

"Bless, there's heat!" was all Daisy could remark when she got into work that morning (quite early, thank you, to make up for the delay that had her late yesterday). Her sigh was a sigh of great relief, accompanied with a surge of thinking how much she loved her job.

"What's he--" Daisy blinked, and then the fact that Coop looked about ready to explode with something that she might actually describe as pure and unabashed joy caught up with her, so she didn't even need to follow his pointing to guess what he was talking about. "Oh! The new machine?"

Daisy arched an eyebrow, trying to keep her amusement down to a very professional level and thinking that no one could poke fun at her for getting excited over silly things after this. "Really?" she asked, shucking off her coat before heading over to check it out, and, when she did, there was no holding back her laugh. "And M&Ms for Kowalski! Boy, Coop, we must have been doing real good lately."

Either that, or he'd just gone crazy in the elation of the new machine and, come tomorrow, will realize the horror of what he was allowing.

Really, Daisy couldn't agree more with a philosophy like that, but when it came to caressing the coffee machine, it got a little weird, and she couldn't help wondering if Coop's girl knew that he felt this strongly about a machine.

To each their own, though. Daisy nodded amicably, choking down her any very unprofessional reactions, most of which just included a lot of laughing.

"Absolutely, sir. I couldn't agree more. I'm sure she'll help us get through any problems with the blizzard and the power outages quite nicely."

Daisy nodded a little. She rubbed her hands together just a bit to work out some of the cold from the walk over and went to getting herself a cup of coffee. "At least," she noted, "we haven't got to worry about any traffic related incidents."

"The worst?" Daisy asked, dumping quite a lot of sugar into her coffee. She, of course, had her own ideas of what the worst would entail, but she felt it would be good to know Coop's version of the worst.

Daisy couldn't help smiling as she stirred in her cream. Straight out of the books, that one. Her version included a lot more people going panic-y, but she liked Coop's answer an awful lot. "Want me to get right on that when I get to my desk? The Red Cross bit?" Soon as she settled in and had a sip, she knew she'd be all about getting focused and helping.

"I'm on it," Daisy assured him with a nod. "And, that's right. If all this keeps up, you think it'll be postpones, or will it be a matter of persevering through thick and thin..."

She paused, glancing toward the window. "And lots and lots of snow."

"What, you mean for the conference, or just in general?"

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing in particular," Daisy admitted, a little ruefully. "I spent Monday entering in some data about all the funny phone calls; tried a hand at encrypting them so that maybe we could trace what caused it, but the whole thing was unlike anything I've ever seen before. Did you...want...something for the conference?"

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd offer to try and trace where it went to," said Daisy, "but, well...at least whatever that interference was didn't stick around too long."

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Daisy grinned a little. "No harm, no foul. I think everyone sort of realized what had happened, and no great domestic blowouts occurred, although I hear quite a few people were a little perturbed at the time of. Besides, it was really something, trying to encrypt all that. It was like a foreign language! It was fascinating. I haven't got to deal with anything like that in my area for a while, so, even though it was hopeless, it was kind of a treat."

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"What, you mean, teach something on it?"

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-21 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm....not sure that's a very good idea, sir," Daisy said, frowning slightly. "You know that a significant percentage of fraud cases, especially with computer technology, are done by adolescents, right? I'm all for encouraging people toward proper training and into the police force, sir, but teaching a course on how to do some of these things is just opening the door for trouble."

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Being improperly trained," Daisy pointed out, "makes them easier to catch."

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd probably be rubbish at teaching, anyway," Daisy offered.

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, well," Daisy eyed Coop with a grin, "we'll just have to leave that one to unsolved mysteries, because we'll never find out."
