Aravis still wasn't particularly thrilled with the cold, though she had welcomed the use of candles last week.

Truth be told, though, she was grateful for the magic electrical light having come back by now, since she suspected this shift would be much colder and darker that way.

Ben poked his head in, then followed with the rest of his body. "Hello," he said, holding out a cup of hot chocolate.

"Someday," Aravis decided, going over to take the hot chocolate from him, "I'll have to make you tea in repayment. Hello."

"It's on my way here," Ben said with a shy smile, "but I won't say no tea sometime."

"I make it strong," she warned. "I used to have to cut Seely's with milk and honey."

"I think the caf the guys used to brew back home could be used to fix holes in runways," Ben said. "I'm used to strong."

He paused. "You don't think that's why I'm short, do you?"

"If it is, it might be why I am, too," Aravis laughed.

Ben grinned. "Well, as long as I'm taller than you and Tahiri," he teased. "And Jaina."

"I fear," she said with a long-suffering sigh, "I shall always be smaller than you."

"I can get you a box to stand on," Ben offered generously.

"You are too kind," she said dryly.

"I hear that all the time," Ben lied. "How was your week?"

"Cold," she said honestly. "Yours?"

"Definitely cold," Ben agreed. "And sadly hot chocolate-less."

"Which is the real tragedy," Aravis agreed.

"It was. The powdered stuff in the common rooms just isn't the same," he said. He smiled. "And the company here is much better."

"Yes, the horses are marvelous conversationalists," Aravis teased.

He wrinkled up his nose at her. "Smudge and I are going out for pizza later," he made up.

"Kally will be so hurt," Aravis said woefully.

"We'd bring leftovers but don't want to string anyone along," Ben said with a nod.

"It's all right. Kally and I will have girl time together," she decided. "To mend her broken heart."

"What would girl time involve?" Ben asked curiously.

"I'm not sure. I'm not very good at it," she admitted.

"But you're a girl," Ben said, looking confused. "Don't you just know that stuff?"

Like he had any clue how to be a guy.

"I'm not a particularly feminine girl," she noted. "My friend Lasaraleen's always been better at these things. Fashion and such."

Ben wrinkled up his nose. "I don't think Kally'd care about fashion," he finally decided. "And the girls I know are, um, interested in weapons and flying and stuff anyway."

Which was why he liked Aravis so much.
