The Arms Hotel Lobby, Friday

Things were quiet in the hotel. Maybe a little too quiet. Mary sought out the usual amusement of reading Casino Death Watch, but found it too depressing to see how many Vegas properties were going under. She still hadn't found a buyer for her shares in the Montecito. Her dreams of making a quick sale for a huge profit and then starting a college fund for her little sisters didn't look like it was going to happen anytime soon.

Life in Gunther's kitchen is never boring.

She'd welcome the distraction.

How nice it was having Elizabeth Taylor now! Charlotte just felt like she was being so accomplished and multitasking when she could swing by to see Mary and still give the dog a walk! She was all smiles as she came in, leading the pet.

"Good afternoon, Mary!"

"Charlotte! Hi!" said Mary, smiling. "How are you doing? And this must be Elizabeth Taylor!"

"It is!" Charlotte beamed, patting her thigh to call the dog over before she started sniffing at the plants. She picked her up, holding her with one arm as the other ruffled between the dog's ears and she smiled at Mary. "Say hello to Mary, Elizabeth Taylor. Hellloooo."

Why, yes, that would be Charlotte moving the dog's paw to 'wave.'

"Hello, Miss Taylor! It's an honor to have you hear," said Mary, grinning. "She is absolutely adorable, Charlotte."

"Isn't she?" Charlotte agreed with adoration, before setting the dog down so that she could explore the new space. "And she's such a good girl, Mary, really. I had a dog once, and all he did was tear up all my shoes and pee on the carpet, but not Elizabeth Taylor! She's truly a classy lady."

"I'd hope so. She has a big name to live up to," said Mary. "You ladies stopped by at the perfect time. After all the excitement of the convention last weekend, I find myself getting bored."

"And we can't have that!" Charlotte said with a laugh. Especially since, around here, when people said they were bored, weird stuff would happen. "Actually, that's kind of why I came around, too. You know, I've had a chance to meet your friend Mina recently."

"Good! What did you think of her?" asked Mary.

"I think she's wonderful!" Charlotte gushed easily. "So refined! And it got me thinking that, really, we should try to plan to get together for tea or something one of these days. I was wondering if you had any sort of preference as to when."

"Oooh, that sounds like a good idea. I'm pretty much available whenever, although this weekend may be out," said Mary, glancing at her planner. "Some ex-boyfriend decided to leave me shares in a casino as a sort of parting gift, and I've had some problems getting rid of them. There might be a quick trip to Vegas in the near future."

"Weekends are bad for me, too," Charlotte said. "I'm working the gallery most of it these days, and, besides, Mina's at the clinic on Sundays. I was thinking something during the day would be nice; that way, I can host, and not even have to worry about Dale, as he'll be at the station."

"In that case, any day next week would work for me. I work Tuesdays and Fridays, but the nice thing about being the boss is that I can get Gunther to cover for me," said Mary.

"I'll try to check with Mina, and then get back to you, then!" Charlotte said, bouncing slightly because she missed being able to plan things. "I was also thinking about who else we might invite, although even just the three of us would be lovely. There's Daisy at the station; she might like tea." Because she was British, obviously. "And she could invite her girlfriend." Although Sarah didn't seem much of a tea-type, but that was okay!

"There's also Millie from the book store. I think she'd definitely enjoy tea," added Mary.

"Oh, I haven't met her!" Charlotte admitted. "All the more reason to invite her! Maybe I'll stop in."

Clearly, she was a little energetic to be bustling around and socializing again. Really, it was all Dale's fault, taking her out to New York.

"The more I think about it, the better this whole plan sounds," said Mary. "Oh, we should probably invite Arya too. She works over at Coyote Medicine and she's still a little new in town."

"Perfect!" Charlotte smiled. "This could turn out to be quite the little ladies' luncheon!"

And she'd get to host it, yaaaaaay!

"I'll have to pick out out my best not-from-Vegas dress," said Mary, grinning. The wheels were turning in her head as she tried to figure out if she had any such dresses.

"If you're not sure about one," Charlotte offered, "you could always go shopping."

Not that she was encouraging anything, really!

"Now, there's an idea!" said Mary. "Not only will I look good but I can do my part to stimulate the economy."

"And, you know," Charlotte added, "if you wanted any help...."

"You're up for a shopping expedition?" said Mary. "That could be a lot of fun, actually." She missed shopping with Delinda and Sam.

"Up for a shopping expedition." Charlotte snorted a little, laughing. "I was born up for shopping expeditions, Mary!"

It's taken me 5 minutes to accept that the calendar is correct and today really is the 30th of January.
