Luke's Diner, Thursday

As a general rule, Priestly didn't like wearing hats. They tended to get in the way of his mohawk.

Not, apparently, that this island was going to listen to him about that. He'd already tried taking it off several times. Failing that, he cut slits in the top for his hair.

Now he couldn't even get it off his head. Though his hair was still faintly visible, if you looked carefully around the bow.

But at least he wasn't telling people the unadulterated truth.

Claudia bounced into the diner in a silver minidress, a pair of insanely colored heels and, of course, the hat.

"You have one too!" she said gleefully.

"Yeah. But it actually looks good on you."

"It looks good on you, too," Claudia said. "Brings out your eyes."

Priestly tried to peer upwards at his hat. "Really? I just figured it was messing with my mohawk."

"It might be a little flat," Claudia agreed, "but that's the price you pay for an awesome hat."

"Actually," Priestly bent forward a little. "When I figured out I couldn't get it to stay off, I cut holes for the hair."

"You are so brilliant," Claudia squealed.

Say what you like about Claudia, she totally knew how to flatter a guy. Priestly looked down and grinned. "Thanks. Can I get you something to eat?"

"A cheeseburger," Claudia answered immediately. "And fries. Oh, and a chocolate milkshake, please."

"Gotta love a girl with a healthy appetite." Priestly flashed her a thumbs up. "Coming right up." He turned to lean over the front counter and call her order back into the kitchen, then turned back.

"It might be a few minutes, the guys in the kitchen are arguing over who's hat looks better."

"It's a hard hat to pull off," Claudia decided, then grinned. "Literally."

Priestly laughed and nodded. "That it is. And, hey, at least we're not being forced to tell the truth every which way again."

"Yeah, that wasn't my favorite thing," Claudia admitted.

"Mine either. Do you have any idea how many girls apparently have managed to get crushes on me?" Yeah, for some reason that was what stuck out in Priestly's mind the most.

Claudia frowned rather a lot. "I've been getting an idea, yeah."

"I hadn't!" Possibly because he's completely oblivious and in denial, but still. "I don't know what to do. I don't wanna break a bunch of girls' hearts."

Claudia might not have been the best person to talk to about this.

"Maybe ask one out," Claudia suggested, "and she can send a signal to the other ones that you're flattered but not interested?"

She thought that was quite subtle of her.

"But what if they just start fighting each other?"

Okay, and now he just kind of sounded full of himself.

"I sound like a pompous ass, don't I."

She smiled. "Maybe a bit. I'm not afraid to pull a little hair, though."

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII don't wanna go to work today.

*cracks up at pissed-off Priestly icon, enforcing the rule*

*is at work and boooored*

I get to use that icon sooooo rarely. . . .

I just got to work, and I'm already bored.
