Living right across the hallway from your date made the whole meeting up to walk over to where you were having dinner thing incredibly easy, Daisy had to admit. It got the conversation started and you barely even had to wait for the other person to get there or anything like that. By the time she and Ben actually got to the sushi place and tok a seat, Daisy couldn't help looking around with a grin and wondering out loud, "Now, why haven't I been here yet?"

"You haven't had a craving for raw fish since you've been in town?" Ben suggested.

"I guess not," said Daisy, grinning a little as she cradled her chin in her hand, elbow on the table, watching all the food going around on the conveyor belt in amusement. "That, or I've generally as a rule tried to avoid a lot of the restaurants around here. Very big on cooking on my own."

"That would explain why the hallway usually smells pretty good," Ben said. "I mostly just try not to set anything on fire when I cook, and I'm proud to say that I've been successful so far."

"Everyone always says something like that," said Daisy, after leaning over for a closer look at something that drifted by and deciding against it, and her attention shifted to Ben across the table. "Usually I find it's a lie when I put them to the test, too."

"Not about the fire," she added. "But just on how they find it a challenge overall."

"Okay, I admit, I was exaggerating a little for humorous effect," Ben said. "I'm a master chef when it comes to ramen."

"Carefully placed sprigs of parsley," offered Daisy. "Instant gourmet."

"I'll have to remember that," Ben said, watching some food go by on the conveyor belt for a second. "Do you have any other tips, oh wise one?"

"Hot sauce," Daisy decided after a moment, nodding, "and soy sauce. Although that's probably a personal thing."

"Together? That just might be crazy enough to work," Ben said.

"I wasn't thinking together," admitted Daisy with a laugh, "but I suppose in a very desperate situation..."

Not that she wasn't already planning on trying it in a second, once something that really caught her eye passed by.

"I stand by my 'crazy enough to work' theory," Ben said with a grin. "And if I'm wrong, then at least it'll be amusing. It might even make this an even more memorable date."

"Oh, well," Daisy's attempts to look affronted were a little ineffectual thanks to her grin., "I should hope there'd be more than that to make it memorable, but I guess I can't go wrong with being remembered as the sauce girl."

"Oh, I'm sure there will be plenty of reasons it'll be memorable. But a sauce incident could really put it over the top," Ben joked.

"All this time," Daisy said, shaking her head, "and here I didn't even realize the secret weapon in my arsenal."

"It can't be a very good secret weapon if everyone knows about it. I mean, sure, it would probably help if you knew. But the important thing is that you know now," Ben said.

"That is true," agreed Daisy. "And now I have it there, ready to use when the going gets real tough."

There was a slight pause.

"Not that they were just now. That was a bit of an accidental usage."

"I think I can forgive you for that," Ben said. "But only because you're so sweet about it."

"Small graces, right?" Daisy asked and, finally, found herself snagging something off the conveyor belt, a little bowl of edamame.

"So, how've you been, Ben? Have an odd weekend?"

"I woke up with vintage 70's clothes littering my apartment and remembering that a giant duck broke the window to my shop," Ben said focusing more on the yellowtail that he grabbed from the conveyor than the memory of the weekend. "I think it's safe to say that I've had better weekends. Hopefully yours was a little saner."

"I had short shorts," Daisy said, "and seemed pretty deadset against wearing anything else so I'm surprise I haven't got a cold. It was a little odd and it meant me having to miss my usual Sunday meditation, but having pants again today was enough that I didn't feel too unbalanced."

"You're into meditation?" Ben asked, silently cursing the lack of short shorts. "I didn't know that."

Well, she did still have them...

"Mmhm," Daisy nodded. "I feel it really helps with being able to get back into the grind of a work week after the weekend."

"That's something I definitely can't do," Ben said. "Even if I could sit still long enough, I have too much trouble trying to get my brain to be quiet for a couple minutes."

"Sometimes it does take a bit," said Daisy, "to get through all the static, yeah. I wish I could do it more after a work week; that's probably when I need it most, but I never can."

"Still, as long as you're able to give yourself a clean slate at some point, that has to help with your line of work a lot," Ben said. It definitely would have made his former extracurricular activities a bit less stressful.
