It was the first time Eliza had opened up the shop on her own since last weekend, and she'd been a bit apprehensive at first, outside setting up displays in the early morning. Enough that she'd retreated to her flat for another cuppa to let the day grow brighter before venturing down again. Now that the sun was out, though, things looked much cheerier, so she set about fixing up the Valentine displays, hoping to tempt those who wanted something a mite fancier than the Student Council roses, though of course she was taking orders for those as well. The E above the door was formed of red carnations, and the sign in the window read:

There's a carnation behind her ear, less a sign of festivity than distraction, but still. It's there.

Hurley came in, mostly to speak with his boss.

"Hey, boss," he said with a smile.

"Hurley!" she said, surprised but not displeased to see him on a Thursday. "Hello!"

"How are you?" Hurley asked, wanting to make a little small talk before his question.

"Quite well, t hank you. And yourself?" She reached to tuck her hair behind her ear and came away with a flower, which she stared at for a second.

"Pretty good," Hurley said. "Definitely feeling more myself than this past weekend. I hope you didn't have much trouble?"

Eliza took a deep breath. Certain topics of conversation had never been covered in under how to politely describe them during afternoon tea. "I always seem to lead rather an exciting life on these odd weekends. Nothing I couldn't recover nicely from, though."

"Oh, sorry to hear that," Hurley said. "Mine was kinda weird, too."

"So, uhhhh, you know a lot about flowers, right?"

"Well, enough to get by here," Eliza answered with a smile. "Did you want to learn more? Or were you thinking of buying some yourself?"

"Well, Valentine's is on Saturday," Hurley said. "And I have a girl to impress."

Eliza clapped her hands together. "Really? That's wonderful. What were you thinking of buying for her?"

"I got no idea," Hurley said. "I want something, like... big, but not expensive."

"I imagine I could drum up something in the way of an employee discount," Eliza said with a laugh. "A bouquet? Something for the dance, or something to put in a vase?"

"...Oh man, I have to get her something for the dance, too," Hurley said. "How about... both of those? I mean, something for both, not... one that doubles up."

"I suspect that would be a bit difficult to carry about and dance at the same time," Eliza agreed. "Do you know what colour her gown is, for the dance?"

"...Awwww crap," Hurley said. "I didn't think about that. I'll have to ask her, later."

"White flowers would go with everything," Eliza suggested, pointing to a sample corsage.

"...Whoa, that's pretty," Hurley said.

"It's only a few small roses," she said, "but that way it won't outshine the lady herself."

"I'll take it," Hurley decided with a nod.

"Wonderful!" Eliza turned to the vase arrangements. "Perhaps something that matches it, then, for your bouquet? But with a bit of colour."

"Awesome," Hurley said. "I'll... pick that up on Saturday, so I can deliver it in person."

"I'll put them aside for you, then, shall I?" Eliza set about affixing tags to both items.

"You are seriously awesome, boss," Hurley said. "Thank you."

"Awesome - is that good?" Eliza asked with a laugh.
