Caritas - Thursday evening [Open]

Ben had just been strolling around town when he heard a call. "Hey! You!" Ben looked around and saw the old guy that owned Caritas. He had a bad feeling about this.

"Hey, how are--" Ben started to say.

"Half my staff is on a boat somewhere and I'll be damned if I work three nights in a row," Jolee said. "Get in there adn help me out."

"But--" Ben started.

"You'll do a great job. Have a good night," Jolee said before walking off.

Ben walked into Caritas and took his place behind the bar. "You know, I still have no clue what that guy's name is," he told Tino. Tino just shrugged.

It was so quiet in town this week that Sarah decided to brave Caritas just to make sure everyone hadn't died in some freak plague.

... orrrrrrr, she was just bored.

"Corona, please," she asked the guy with the dye job as she tilted her head at the band. "Those guys are giving me flashbacks to Saturday mornings."

No, the thoughts weren't related.

"It's part of a coolness test," Ben said, grabbing a bottle for the lady. "Anyone who immediately recognizes the music is cool, obviously. Either that, or they're as much of a nerd as me. The jury's still out on that. Here you go."

"Thanks," Sarah said, taking a sip from the bottle. "I just spent too much time watching TV as a kid, but I'll take the compliment."

"Well, there are many paths to coolness," Ben said.

"True. For example," Sarah said, tucking her hair back, "I run the comics shop."

"Ouch. Sorry. That makes you a dork. I hope speaking the truth doesn't hurt your feelings or my tip," Ben joked.

Sarah pretended to be considering it. "You're assuming I was going to tip you," she said teasingly.

"I am. But that's because I'm a hard worker, have a friendly nature, and I'm not afraid to speak the truth even when it means that someone is a dork," Ben said. "Again, sorry."

Mina came into the bar again tonight, mainly due to the general quiet.

"A glass of wine, please," she said.

Tully knew all about taking jobs on the fly and learning as you go. There would be no judgement on his part regarding Ben's performance.

He nodded a greeting. "Evening."

"I think I'm not going to be too incredibly offended," Sarah said, sounding far more amused than anything else. "I've heard worse."

"Sure thing, Mrs Harker," Ben said. Did he feel a little weird considering what he told Mina last time they talked? Oh, yes. But he was good at trying to hide stuff like that. He poured the wine and slid it over. "How are you tonight?"

"Did somebody call you a dweeb?" Ben asked. "Because that's just going way too far."

"I am well," Mina said. "And yourself? Keeping out of trouble?"

"Good evening," Ben said. "What can I get for you? I should warn you that if it's even slightly complicated, the part of 'I' will be played by my good friend Tino here."

"Good evening, Sarah," Mina greeted. "I hope you are well?"

Tully chuckled. "Just a beer then." he said. "First night?"

"Evening Mrs. Harker." said Tully. He felt slightly awkward given their last conversation involved him making an ass of himself, but he was trying to break his whole, running from his problems habit.

"I'm trying my best," Ben said. "That doesn't seem to keep me from bartending randomly, though."

"Second, actually," Ben said, getting a glass for Tully's beer. "But the first one was about a month ago and was just as spontaneous as this one. I don't technically work here."
