Sarah had spent the day before in Virginia at the kind of mind-numbing training session she was convinced the CIA designed as their form of special hell, so she only found out about the invasion of children when she listened to radio.

The shop wasn't normally open on Sundays, but if there was ever a Sunday for a comic shop to break that rule, this was the day. Sarah made a special sign for the window and took a place behind the register.

WHEE COMICS.

She is surprisingly not-horrible with children. SP from me due to RL stuff.

Momoko placed three shiny rocks and a plucked violet on the counter and smiled. "Can I has two pink rangers and a red ranger, please?"

"We probably have those," Sarah said, smiling. The little redhead was cute. "Pretty rocks. What are they for?"

Momoko jumped in place and clapped her hands. "Yay! And the rocks is cause I gots no moneys and Turtle says thats okay but I has to share inna market to get things when I shops and she's got the bestest store ever so you gotta go okay?" She pointed at the flower. "That's cause rangers is more 'spensive than jelly."

"So you want to trade the rocks and the flower for the rangers?" It took more of Sarah's concentration to follow the girl that she would have liked, but she managed. "How about we do a trade, and I send a note to your mommy for the money?"

"So rangers is that 'spensive? More than three rocks anna flower?"

Momoko frowned and had to consider for a moment. Shoppings was harder than Mama made it look. Even when you were almost-four.

Sarah frowned. "You know," she decided, "I think today three rocks and two flowers is just about right for three rangers."

She'd pay for them herself.

"Oh my gosh, really?!" Momoko jumped in a small circle and squealed a few more 'really's before stopping with a laugh and holding tight to the counter. "I'll be right back cause I gots to get another flower cause I only has that one and rangers is one more so I'll be back an' don't give my rangers away, okay?"

"Really really," Sarah promised. "I'll hold them right here at the counter where they're safe for you, okay?"

"Okay!" Momoko managed to get out as she turned and ran for the door. It took a while, but she came back and reached out a grubby palm. "Here! It's another purple! And and and? I brought you a yellow one for your hair cause it's pretty and it's not for anything 'cept you're nice! I tried to wipe alla dirt off the bottoms but it still gots a little bit onnit."

"I think that'll look very nice in my hair" Sarah said, trying not to laugh. The flower wasn't too grungy, and she'd had worse things in her hair. "Are all of the rangers for you?"

Momoko grinned. "Nope! I gots a pink rangers cause it's my favritist colour and then one mores for Jen cause she likes the pink ranger bestest too and she told me alls bout the new Racerrangers show and then the red is for Warren!"

"You're generous," Sarah observed. "Why do you like pink best?"

Momoko shrugged her shoulders. "Cause pink's the bestest colour ever!" She leaned in closer and tried to whisper. "Red's my second favritist colour but not as favrit as pink cause pink is betterer!"

Jack wandered in the shop, clutching a fishbowl with a tadpole!Robin in it ~~who was modded w/permission~~. "Oooooooooooh, comics!"

Robin was clinging to the lip of the fishbowl and staring around with rapt astonishment.

"Ooooooooooooooooohh!!" he agreed.

There was a kid holding a goldfish bowl. Interesting.

"Can I help you with anything?"

Robin waved to the nice lady and gurgled happily. It might sound like baby talk but it was just the language of tadpoles.

The comic shop had to be open this weekend, yep.
