Pixie Dust, Friday

Jenny arrived for work on time for once and spent some time tidying up the shop and making an inventory. Granted, the inventory was of the under-the-counter liquor supply, but it was still an inventory.

Then she got kind of bored and started looking through the racks for things ugly enough that she could justify burning them.

Pixie Dust was open.

Both of them were free from work, ready to get a good start to the weekend, but Daisy was very insistent on one very specific thing:

There was no way in bloody hell she was taking Mina clubbing with her in those clothes.

So the simple solution was a pit-stop at the clothing store, since Daisy knew nothing she had would likely fit Mina's curvier body, and she even offered it to be her treat as they found something more appropriately modern. "Right, then," she said, taking a look around. "Let's find you something cute."

"I'd actually given some thought to... modernizing my wardrobe," Mina said. "I was recently told something rather insulting about my manner of dress."

"Oh, no kidding?" asked Daisy, tilting her head a little as she pushed back a small rack of t-shirts for a better look at one. "What was that?"

"That it is the manner of dress for a Madam. As in the manager of a house of prostitutes," Mina said.

There was a bit of a pause, a tilt of her head.

"Is it?" asked Daisy. "I mean, I wouldn't have thought it so, but it isn't like I was around when all that was the fashion."

"Hardly," Mina said. "And yet the man insisted."

"Wishful thinking?" suggested Daisy with a crooked grin, drifting a little deeper into the store with an eye out for more something they were looking for.

"It was at Miss Bennet's sewing gathering," Mina said. "If he wished for prostitution, he was in the wrong place."

"Oooh, well." Daisy's expression went uncomfortable for a moment.

"Seamstresses, you know..."

"I am aware of the common mask for such activities," Mina said. "Still, it was rather insulting."

"Perhaps," agreed Daisy, lightly, in an unconvinced manner, as she tried to be positive. "From one look at it. But, you know, from another...Some Madams are known to be incredibly successful and, as the proprietors of their alleged businesses, are simply managing the business, not making the product. So perhaps that is merely saying you look like a responsible and successful young woman, just with a bit of a...wild streak. Which I hope isn't too far off the mark, or else we might as well call tonight off entirely."

Mina huffed a laugh. "You are far too kind," she said. "But I would not worry about a lack of... a wild streak."

"Oh, good," Daisy chuckled a little. "Don't know what I'd do thinking your window breaking days were over. Now just to find a nice little number to match that streak..."

"Nothing showing too much skin, please," Mina remarked.

Daisy grinned. "Define 'too much.'"

It was actually a fairly decent question, since Daisy knew her style (http://z.about.com/d/movies/1/0/v/B/S/rocknrollaprem14.jpg) wasn't leaving much to the imagination tonight.

And she was actually reigning it in a little for Mina's sake. The light jacket for the weather might also be helping her a bit.

"I would prefer it if more was left to the imagination than shown," Mina said.

"But you've still got to be able to move pretty easily," Daisy warned, eying some dresses. "I mean, it gets pretty warm and crowded. Besides, you are pretty hot, Mina, have to make it look good."

"Oh, speaking of wild (http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3018868/0~2376776~2374327~2374331~6014133?mediumthumbnail=Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6014133&P=7)..." Daisy snatched up a dress, holding it up hopefully. It was terribly cute; she might have to look into getting it for herself.

Mina tilted her head. "I'm not sure wearing so much red is a good idea with my hair."

"Hmmmm," Daisy considered that point, then nodded. "True. No red, then, which is a shame..."

Clearly, Daisy was getting stuck on a theme.

"That would leave so much of my legs bare," Mina said, hesitating.

Daisy's grin only sharpened. "Yes," she agreed. "That's rather the idea."

"Well," Mina said. "I suppose I cannot remain in the past too long."

"And if it's any consolation," said Daisy, "my skirt's still shorter; I'll remain the more blatantly improper one." She was gently shoving the dress forward. "Go on, go on, try it on, then!"

Mina took the dress and went to the changing room.

After a bit of hesitation (and, well, quite a bit of time to undress), she stepped out to model it.

"I think it may work," she said.

"Think it may?" Daisy repeated with amused incredulous. "Believe me. It definitely works. Now all you need is a good pair of Fu--" Whoa, there, Daisy, remember who you're talking to. "Errr, a good pair of shoes to go with it and we're good to go. Take the deep plunge into modern clubbing society."
