Pepper was inexplicably exhausted when she wandered in to work today. So exhausted, in fact, that not only was she cradling her coffee like a lifeline, but she stripped off her shoes behind her desk and forced herself to focus on her screen.

Kind of.

Okay, so today was a sleepy enough day to just kind of sit and read internet archives all day.

Hey, arguably, reading TMZ was absolutely part of her job, and it wasn't like she hadn't finished all her work like weeks ago, anyway.

That was some fast alt-tab work, nonetheless. "Yes, Mr. Stark?"

Which Tony oh so graciously pretended to not see. "You look tired. Are you tired?"

Always flattering to know when you looked as crappy as you felt.

"I'm just fine, Mr. Stark," she lied, holding up her coffee cup. "Caffeine and everything, see?"

He always tried to help.

Tilting his chin up, Tony looked down at her instead of up as per usual. "You'd tell me if I need to give you a vacation, right?"

Because when someone ran things for you, they needed to keep you appraised of these things!

"Yes, Tony," she said, resisting the urge to roll her eyes, because really, she'd put that down in the file of Never Gonna Happen. "I think I just slept funny or something. I'm not about to have a nervous breakdown or anything."
