Pixie Dust, Monday, 4/6

If it wasn't the Monday before prom, Romeo wouldn't have opened the shop. As it was, he wasn't letting Dojima out of his sight for more than an instant.

So Pixie Dust was open, and a selection of evening gowns and tuxedos had been haphazardly pulled onto the racks at the front of the store for people to shop from, but the manager was huddled behind the counter with his girlfriend, looking at her as if he expected her to fly away at any second.

I'm sure you're totally thinking about prom today, right?

Well, Jill was, but Jill was pretty much always thinking about prom.

At some point in the afternoon, she showed up, tried on half the dresses in the store, and finally bought one she liked, but figured was different enough Ramie wouldn't beat her if she ever saw pictures of it.

Or to Dojima. They're a bit of a package deal today.

Sometime after class, Reno found himself kind of oozing his way along to Pixie Dust.

He owed people apologies. And such. After that whole... thing.

Which was why he was going to cut to the chase the moment he entered the store, and stand in the doorway, and open his mouth, and take a breath, and vocalize this point of fact in the most eloquent way possible.

"Drinks. On me. Wheneverthefuck."

"Reno." Relief flooded through Romeo's voice and over his face. "I knew Rikku was looking for you but I didn't know -- you're here, and you're well, and drinks sound incredible."

He hesitated for a moment. "Are you well?"

"Tired," Reno decided. "In one piece."

He really wasn't doing so hot at all. But so long as he was in one piece, he didn't have any right to bitch about it. Right. "You?"

"Everyone I thought I had lost is alive," Romeo answered. "That makes things more than better."

He gestured Reno to come in. "Did you visit Rikku?"

Reno gave a little nod as he wandered into the store.

"I did, ~~handwavily because it was one in the morning post-BDE omg~~ yeah. She phoned me while I was... gettin' my bearings back, yo."

Getting his bearings. Having a breakdown on the lawn. Same difference.

"I, uh, tried to eat you."

Romeo was about ready to say something more about Rikku when Reno brought up ... that other thing.

"I would have let you take me, had the blond woman not come along to play hero," Romeo said softly. "I couldn't lose people I love again. I can't."

Reno's gaze dropped to the floor and he nodded. The blond woman. Sarah. He'd have to thank her for keeping Romeo's ass in one piece, later.

"M' glad she did, then. I mean, temporary or not, the dyin' part wasn't so fun, and the bein' dead bit is somethin' I could'a gone without, too."

Romeo gave him a curious look. "What did it feel like?" he asked. "Not the biting, I mean, I can imagine that. But ... were you you, behind those dead eyes?"

Reno fought back a shudder and the wave of nausea that hit as he thought back to what it was like, and then he shook his head a little.

"Not really. It's like... it took all the worst parts of me, or the strongest bits of my mind, and that's what got to stay. And then it made those parts hungry."

Ruthlessness, determination, a distinct lack of self-preservation, all wrapped up in the simple but blunt fact that Reno enjoyed the hunt and the kill.

And now Romeo looked like he was going to vomit. He should stop asking questions he didn't want to know the answer to.

"It must be horrible to remember," he said softly. He had enough horror movies in his mind from being on the other end.

"That's why I'm sayin', man. Booze. On me."

It fixed everything. Really. Dammit.

"I'll meet you at Caritas tomorrow," Romeo decided.

He'd probably need a drink before then, but he wasn't ready to leave Dojima alone for that long just yet. One more day and he might be able to at least attempt it.

Reno nodded at that.

"Tomorrow's good. See you there."

He... wasn't exactly the greatest conversation in the world just then. So he ran his fingers through his hair, and then, glancing toward Doji, he added, "Take care of her, yo. I put her through hell."

"You weren't yourself, Reno," Romeo answered. "... I will, though. I couldn't do anything less."

He stuck his hands awkwardly in his pockets. "I'll see you tomorrow. Be good to Rikku."

Reno returned a tired nod, and then he headed for the door.

"Of course, man. 'Till then."

Dojima was indeed there, curled up behind the counter in an oversized sweater and jeans, flipping through a fashion magazine. It was definately less... 'together' than she normally was, but she hadn't had the energy to deal with makeup or anything like that this morning.

After helping a customer, Romeo retreated behind the counter to cuddle with her some more. "You look beautiful."

She was alive. That was the most beautiful thing of all.

Yurika made a noise of 'yeah, right', but leaned into the cuddle. "You have to say that," she pointed out. "I think it's in the boyfriend-contract."

"I would say it even if I wasn't your boyfriend," Romeo vowed. "I'll say it a hundred times a day for the rest of our lives."

It was sweet nonsense, but it felt good to say.

"You'll go hoarse," she teased, setting her magazine aside to kiss him. "You might starve, unable to eat because you're too busy declaring how pretty I am."

"A happy death that would be," Romeo whispered before returning the kiss.

When they parted for air, he said, simply, "Let me come to Tokyo."

Yurika just blinked at him for a few moments, brain unable to process what he'd just asked. Did he? Seriously? She'd just spent the last four days dead and her hair was a mess and it wasn't like she hadn't told him no a million times before and and and;

Yurika just wrapped her arms around him and pulled him in for another very long, very enthusiastic kiss.

It was very much a 'yes' type of kiss.

Romeo was going to take that yes and swim in it and not say anything else, before he ruined it.

His mouth was busy, anyhow.
