El Burrito Loco, Saturday evening

After a good bit of debate, and getting Tony to babysit her other kids during dinner, Dinah took Lena to El Burrito to wait for Priestly, and dinner. "Did you guys have fun today?"

"Yuh-hunh! We went climbing the trees in the park, and got ice cream, and Daddy and I are maybe going to get hair colors tomorrow so mine can be blue!" Lena gave her Mom a big grin, and wriggled in her seat. "Did you have fun today too?"

"I did. Um. You've got more siblings than I thought," Dinah said nervously. "Another little boy named Malcolm. And a little girl named Jess. They're four and six, and I hope you can get along with them?"

Notice she has no hope where Gawain is concerned.

"Sure," Lena said easily. "They're only for now, right? They don't have to go home with me." That might be a bit more difficult to deal with, but temporary siblings sounded kind of interesting to Lena. "I'll take care of them."

Dinah smiled gratefully. After Jess's pouting and Gawain's stomping and Malcolm's clinging, this was a welcome change. "Thank you so much. This is all kind of new and weird for me. I'm not used to this many kids at once."

"No?" Lena looked a little cagey. "Maybe I overheard you talking to Aunt Helena once, and kinda, um. Spied on you?" She looked guilty. "I wanted to be a private eye too, Mommy. And a superhero girl!"

Dinah facepalmed and took a breath. "Um, maybe when you're older?" Or not at all?

Okay, very very weird, to get her own mom's objections to her going into this line of work now.

Priestly had been taking advantage of his brief kid-free time, but he'd had as much fun hanging with Lena as she'd had with him, so he was quick to get to the dinner. "Hey guys. Hope I didn't keep you waiting?"

"Nope," Dinah said, glad of the interruption, and smiled up at him. "Our server was getting us chips, but we hadn't decided on anything else. Lena was just telling me what you guys got up to today."
