Katchoo had coffee and a muffin when she came in to work, and possibly diabolical plans for scaring the new kids. Maaaaaaaaaaaybe.

The coffee and muffin were concrete realities, at least for as long as they lasted. The occasional smirk that crossed her face could have had other interpretations.

And suddenly, there were bananas. Or, at least, there were two gremlin-bitten girls who thought they were bananas.

"Uh, 'scuse me?" said B1, twiddling her fingers. "Have you seen any teddy bears?"

"We were chasing them," added B2 helpfully.

"And they were faster than you? That's sad," Katchoo informed them.

She was always so helpful.

"We got distracted," said B2.

"Yeah, that one teddy bear bit us and we got confused," added B1.

"Oh, those teddy bears." That realization had nothing to do with Katchoo deciding to sit on the counter right about then. "Nope, haven't seen 'em. What are you gonna do when you catch 'em?"

"When we chase the teddy bears, we try to catch them unawares!" said B2.

"And then we hug them!" added B1.

"Bet they love that," Katchoo drawled. "And maybe express their love by chewing on you some more."

"That was kind of mean. Teddy bears shouldn't bite," said B2.

"I know what we should do!" said B1. "We should make a drawing to give to the teddy bears and maybe they won't bite us anymore."

"What does this look like, arts and crafts hour?" Katchoo demanded. Behold her immense sympathy for the gremlin-bitten.

"We like arts and crafts hour!" squealed B1.

"Arts and crafts are fun!" said B2.

"Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah," Katchoo said, maybe checking out the girl she didn't recognize just a little. She couldn't help it; she did have eyes, after all. "They might be, but this still isn't arts and crafts hour. You know, I think those teddy bears might be in the park. Check the duck pond. I think they like to swim."

She was a bitch sometimes, yes.

"And I bet the ducks would love to see you." God, Katchoo was so going to hell. Ignore that slightly evil grin. "They might even have crayons and paper -- one of 'em was in here earlier."

"Let's go see the ducks, B1! Maybe the teddy bears are there," said B2.

Katchoo snickered. "Quack quack."

"Quack quack!" repeated B1, flapping her arms. "Come on, B2, let's go see the ducks!"

"God, I wish I had a video camera," Katchoo said under her breath.

"Say hello to the duckies for me," she added, grinning.
