Convenient Garden Flower Shoppe, Tuesday
Ino probably laughed too hard at radio but seriously didn’t care—it wasn’t like she’d been encouraging Francine to blow things up, though that might be fun too—and was in a ridiculous mood as she bounced into work.
Today, out of sheer exuberance, she was totally making a crown of Coreopsis flowers and humming as she worked.

Talk to Ino
Re: Talk to Ino
"Hello?"

Re: Talk to Ino
"I don't really know flowers. Just not roses."
Re: Talk to Ino
A beat.
"I'm Ino," she added. "And flowers are kinda my thing." Kinda. Along-side the ninja bit.
Re: Talk to Ino
Anything to lose the rose smell, or at least cover it up a little.
"Fiona. I don't think I really have a thing."
Cutting didn't, and wouldn't ever, count.
Re: Talk to Ino
"You don't have anything you like doing more than anything else?"
Re: Talk to Ino
Robert didn't count as a thing, after all.
"Honey scent, maybe? Or clove."
She liked clove and it should be strong enough.
Re: Talk to Ino
Ino slipped from behind the counter, wending her way through the aisles, to stop and hold up a potted plant. "This is your clove one; Matthiola incana, common name: Hoary stock." She set it down, and headed a few feet further to pick up another potted plant. "Sweet Alyssum; honey."
Re: Talk to Ino
And she got to keep her own money this time instead of getting bits and pieces.
When they got to the flowers, both of them smelled lovely. That was one thing; at least her sense of smell had been left alone. She could still enjoy this. She went to the honey, then the clove, and finally stood between them.
"Could I get both? The two of them are nice together."
And definitely strong enough to overpower the rose in her bags.

Re: Talk to Ino
"I'm working at the law offices. Cabot and Associates?"
Re: Talk to Ino
oh so handwavily?"Ino tapped her pen against her cheek. "I think I saw the sign go up," she commented, "but I haven't been. It's a pretty new business, I think."
Re: Talk to Ino
"Could you send the Matthiola incana up to my cabin? I'll take the Lobularia maritima back to the office myself."
Yes, she'd used the other name for the flower. Once she heard the name, it had jogged her memory. Botany wasn't her best subject, but she was better at it than Eliot. He tended towards zoology.
Unfortunately, reading about flowers in dusty old books was a world away from something like this.
Re: Talk to Ino
"This," she said, setting the paper down, "is care and instructions for making sure they stay healthy. If you mistreat them, I'll be cranky." Ino winked, though she wasn't kidding, and rattled off the total cost of Fiona's purchase.
Re: Talk to Ino
"What flowers you're supposed to use for what purposes? I know it from books, but I've never gotten to actually have real flowers."
Her eyes went to the paper Ino had written out for her.
"I won't mistreat them. I promise."
Re: Talk to Ino
A pause.
"No flowers ever?" Ino was never going stop being horrified by that idea.
Re: Talk to Ino
"We'd see them outside sometimes, but we couldn't bring any home."
She bit one of her nails before tugging her finger away from her mouth.
"And I know some of the medicinal uses as well, but I was just talking about what flowers to use in an arrangement."
Re: Talk to Ino
Her slight wince at the idea of learning arrangement from books wasn't supressed however. "Well," she said brightly, "at least now you get to see real flowers, and learn 'bout them in person. If we were hiring, that'd have been fun, 'cause Eliza-san, er..." She tugged at her hair. "Hires some people who don't know nothing, and it's frustrating 'cause what's the point of a florist clerk who can't tell nothing beyond the difference between a rose and a daisy?"
Ino was a flower snob. She liked her co-workers, but this was true.
Re: Talk to Ino
Instead, she joined Ino in the slightly awkward smile.
"Flowers wouldn't be too bad. I just didn't want to have to work with food. I used to bus tables at a restaurant and I hated it."
Re: Talk to Ino
Re: Talk to Ino
"I need to get used to everything around here, so I think I'll stick to one job for the moment."
Re: Talk to Ino
Re: Talk to Ino
"I'll let you get back to business."
And she picked up the plant.
"It was nice meeting you."
