Movie Sign Theatre 3000 - Saturday afternoon - 5/24

Fiona waited patiently outside of the theatre, nails tapping against the wall as she waited for Griff. She'd been worried she wouldn't pick a good movie for them to see, but the theatre was only playing one at the moment, so it had made the issue of choice somewhat moot.

Walking up to the theater, Griff gave a wave and a smile. "I'm not late, am I?"

She shook her head and held up the tickets.

"Not according to the clock. And we just need to walk in now."

She turned her hand for her to take his.

"This movie is all right? Wasn't quite sure but this is the one they're playing."

Griff grinned, taking his ticket. "Thanks, and yeah, this should be entertaining. I've seen a few of the old movies. You like science fiction?"

He was mostly curious because of what she'd told him of her literary past.

"I've never read any. Or seen it. Or anything," she had to admit, walking a little closer to him as she headed through the doors. She held the door for him.

"I just wanted to see a movie."

There was a pause before she added:

"With you, of course."

Wasn't that a normal teenage thing? A movie? A movie d--

Was it? Had she invited him on a date or was this just friends? She suddenly had no idea but she calmed herself with the thought that, well, if it was, she didn't really mind. If that's what he thought it was, she'd be happy to agree with him.

"Hopefully you won't be disappointed," he told her, thanking her for holding the door as he stepped inside, completely at ease. "It might be tame compared to the real aliens here."

"I'm sure it'll be very interesting no matter what."

She walked right past the snack bar, a little hurried before ducking back to glance at him.

"Did you want anything? Sorry."

"Nah, popcorn just gets all stuck in my teeth anyway," he said with a shrug. "Even if I could toss it at you."

She rolled her eyes.

"That would make a mess," she pointed out before heading for the usher. She handed over her ticket as the man at the window had told her to before stepping through and waiting for him on the other side of the podium.

"How've you been, by the way? I haven't seen you for a few days."

"And a mess would be a terrible thing," Griff said, directing his comment to the poor usher, lest the man would think he was intending to be that sort of patron.

"I've been around. Not so much as you, judging by what I hear, but I'm good. How'd you end up on radio last night?"

"If I knew, I wouldn't have been there," she muttered with a bit of a grumble. Something occurred to her, however, and she smiled.

"You listened?"

"Yeah, there's a radio in the cabin so I have a listen before bed," he answered, pausing to take a look at the rows of seats. "Always good to know what the squirrels are saying about me."

She rolled her eyes and her lip curled in irritation.

"They said something not all that nice," she admitted, "or at least, that was what was on the paper. I didn't believe it, though."

Fiona looked at the rows of seats as well before turning to Griff.

"You'd know better than I would where we should sit for this kind of thing."

"Middle," he said, leading the way down the isle, but walking sideways to still face her partially.

"And now I wanna know what this paper said about me." And which squirrel was watching.

She followed.

"Just that you and Alex were being 'bitchy' at each other. Hmph. He's been all right in class, but he certainly wasn't very nice to me whenever I tried to talk to him."

She tapped a row that she estimated to be in the 'middle'.

"This one?"

"Sure," he nodded, following down the row to take a seat. "Hilariously enough, I think last night was the best conversation I've had with Karev so far. We're roommates, you know."

She actually winced for half a second before she smirked.

"Well, then. I suppose I'll have to visit. Improve the atmosphere."

She settled beside him and wobbled a little as she wasn't quite prepared for the seat to shift so much for her.

"...is it supposed to do that?"

Griff's eyes widened. "Your chair's not leaning back, is it?"

She pushed a little more and it did move, but it was a strange position for her and she looked a little red for not knowing she was supposed to sit like that. She'd never been in a chair that sat this far back; it had to be bad for the posture, she thought.

"Sorry. These are kind of strange, but I guess it makes sense. It's so we can see the screen, right?"

Woe, for his attempt to mess with her had failed. "Or take a nap during the previews," he said, leaning back. "I used to jump in for free movies a lot back before I realized they could sense it."

"Well, you got into this one for free, didn't you?" she teased before settling into the seat a little more comfortably.

"That said, despite the fact that I was woken by squirrels, I'm not going to nap. I'd rather not miss anything."

She reached out, looking for his hand. It was getting to be a habit, and part of her wondered if it was just a different sort of addiction but she reminded herself that there was another word when it came to people that she could use.

Affection.

"I needed this after yesterday."

Holding her hand was easy He'd gotten used to her need for proximity and touch and leaned his shoulder toward her. "Yesterday meaning the part where you went to the Principal's office?"

She gave his hand a slight squeeze, part 'wince' part 'thank you'.

"Yeah. That part. I don't think I've been that nervous... well, for a while."

A couple of months, anyway.

"But she was pretty good about things. I explained about my dad's family and she didn't seem to think it would be a problem. Dinah came with me to make sure I would be all right."

"Yeah, she seemed approachable at the picnic," Griff said, not that he'd approached the principal, but he would.

"You know, as much as I've heard the name on radio, I don't think I know Dinah." Even if he was pretty sure she was in Criminal Justice.

"I'll have to introduce you sometime. She's... she's probably one of my best friends here. I've told her everything and she still likes me so--"

Which brought to mind the fact that she hadn't told Griff everything.

"I mean--" she swore mildly in French before pausing a minute to try and figure out how to put it without making things worse.

"You're one of my best friends too," she finally said.

Griff chuckled a little confusedly, "And being friends makes you get creative with your French?"
