Everything But The Monkey, Sunday Afternoon

Arthur hadn't planned on doing this back when he was still vaguely confident that he would soon return to Camelot. But the time for that had come and passed, he felt homesick, and he had little to do. None of these were unusual conditions, as he'd had them for quite some time by now.

But today, these conditions met each other somewhere in the middle, clashed, and came up with--

"Too small," Arthur judged, peering down into one container full of puppies. So that was plastics, then.

[[ arthur's here with one and locked, but open for your pet needs ]]

"They're puppies, Arthur. I believe they're supposed to be a bit small."

Which wasn't on Merlin's mind as he reached into one of the pens to give a puppy a belly rub.

"How could I forget?"

Or that he had a heart, perhaps?

"What are you looking for exactly?" There were so many types of dog, it seemed. He always thought of it in terms of large dogs and small dogs. They all had a tendency to look about the same beyond that.

"Do you really think they will have dogs like yours back home?" Merlin asked, walking over to see what he was looking at.

The face Merlin made? Utterly girly.

But look at those paws! And that face!

"What will you name it?"

"How long do they take to train?" Merlin asked, holding out his hands to take the pup.

Merlin held the puppy like a baby, grinning down at it. 'O's a cutie? 'es 'o is!

"A fierce hunter," Merlin said, nodding down at the ball of fur and paws. "You can tell by the look in his eye."

"Of course." Merlin was very busy rubbing this one's belly too.

"You're going to be leaving tomorrow," Merlin informed the dog in a low voice. Because it clearly understood him.

"You'll need a name by then!"

After one last squeeze of the puppy, he handed it over. "A good name, sire."
