Covent Garden Flowers [With appropriately-placed scribbles], Monday, 25 May

This wasn't Eliza's holiday at all - Remembrance Day wouldn't even be her holiday for another seven years or so - but she recognized the sentiment well enough, and it made her think, not unhappily, of a friend she was very glad had come back from the Boer War. A friend she would never have met if he hadn't.

The sign outside was hung with spring flowers - too soon for poppies to mean anything to her but opium dens - and Eliza was behind the counter with a bit of a wistful smile.

The sign in the window read, as usual:

Covent Garden Flowers

Eliza Doolittle, prop.
Fresh flowers from nosegays to bouquets!
