Magic Reserve - The Preserve, Wednesday Afternoon

"Hey, everyone," Tony said, once people had gathered. "We're going to talk about shielding today. Or defenses, in general, since everyone's magic is a little different. First, Karla's going to talk a bit about shields. Karla?"

Tony stepped aside and let Karla ~~tag in~~ speak and answer any questions.

Once she was done, Tony addressed the group again. "Who else feels comfortable enough with defensive magic to help others? Raise your hand, please?" Wow, he felt like a teacher or something. Way weird. ~~Assuming there were hands up,~~ he continued. "Okay, everyone else? These are the guys you go to for help."

"One last thing for today - let's talk strategy. Karla suggested that we find a few places on the island that are easy to defend and practice shielding those spots. Where do you guys think those places are? And what else can we do to make those spots ready for an invasion - like, maybe have food and first aid stuff staged there?"

"Why are you?"

The Look turned incredulous. "I just told you, I don't know when I'll see her next! Why does this have to be a big deal?"

Her eyes narrowed, and her voice turned very, very sweet. "Or is it just that you have a problem doing favors for witches?"

Merlin gave her a look of utter confusion. "Would I have started this group if I did? I have a problem handling bloody poison."

"Poison in a bleeding glass vial!" she snapped. "Or are you worried that you'll forget what it is and drink it? Or are you just so unskilled in Healing Craft" significant glance at his nose and bruised eyes "that you're unaware that most medicine is poison in an improper dose?! Yes, it's poison," her tone was scathing, "but it's poison I need. Or will the Support Reserves only help people whose treatment they approve of?"

That certainly wasn't quite an expected outburst. "...are you well? Some medicine may have that capability, but it's not kept around dangerously, Karla. I simply don't understand why, if it's so important, you give it to me instead of making certain to find her yourself."

And back to looking at hime as if he were daft. "I asked, simply because it would be convenient, as I don't know when I'll see her next. That is why I asked you originally. And because I was operating under the assumption" she wasn't going to say 'trusted' though that was the first word that had come to mind "that you were competent enough to be able to transport a sealed glass vial from me to her. Had I realized this was not the case, I wouldn't have bothered you in the first place."

She spun around on her heel and stormed off, cursing idiot males under her breath. Why was this such a problem?!

Merlin just stared. "You just as much chance to find her in the dorms as I," He snapped after her. "It's not as though you don't have sodding legs!"

Karla spun around. "I don't know where she lives! I've talked to her perhaps three times, and none of those times were in her dorm room, you half-wit! Or would you like to suggest I call her on the number I don't have!"

"You could simply ask."

"Or, I could pass it to someone who knows. Someone who'd likely be seeing her shortly anyway, in case she isn't in her dorm room. Oh wait, I tried that!"

"I don't have any plans to see her later either, Karla."

"Fine. If you haven't seen her by the next time I do, I'll apologize. But until then, I'll just keep assumin you're a--"

For once, Karla listened to that tiny voice inside of her that occasionallt suggested she shut up. She bit back the colorful and creative insult she'd been planning to hurl at him, bowed, and said, "Never mind, Lord Merlin. I regret to have bothered you with such a simple request. It shall never happen again."

She whirled around and stalked out of the Preserve.
