Movie Sign Theater 3000, Wednesday Afternoon

Karla waited for Eric to show up on their date. She changed after the Reserves meeting into sharply tailored navy blue pants, and a skimpy, shimmery silver top. It was more formal that her loose-fitting cast-offs, but wasn't one of the numerous gowns that the High Lord had packed. The outfit came with a long jacket that Karla carried over a shoulder; for one thing, it was too hot to wear. For another, the skimpiness of the top appealed to her.

She didn't think too closely about the reason why.

[Karla's waiting for one, but the theater's public]

Eric grinned as he came up to the theatre, waving to Karla as he approached. "Hey," he greeted. After his encounter with Arthur in the salle, he'd gone back to his room, showered, and changed into a pair of chinos and a light-blue, short-sleeved button-up shirt. "I hope you haven't been waiting long?"

Eric nodded. "It's nothing too complicated," he said. "There's concessions, that's just snacks? Popcorn is traditional, but there's lots of other stuff you can get, too. And soda, to drink. Has anyone shown you soda yet?"

"Then we go into a big, dark room and sit in usually decently comfortable seats, and they project the movie onto a big screen." He frowned for a moment. "It'll probably be pretty loud. Is that going to be a problem?"

Eric shook his head. "Probably not. I just know that some people, even from worlds with theatres, find some movies too loud. I figured it couldn't hurt to warn you."

He walked into theatre. "Did you want some popcorn, then? And what kind of soda?"

"I'll just get some junior mints," Eric said. "And a Sprite. Brown, you said? Do you know, was it Coke? Or root beer?"

[Ack, I am so sorry, I completely missed the ping coming in.]

"Chocolate covered mints!" Eric explained. He led the way up to concessions and ordered for them both; he pulled out his wallet and paid. "Here, you want to try one?" he offered, holding out the box after he'd received it from the cashier.

"No, that's fine, I've got more than enough to cover it holy fuck is that a gold coin?"

[identity profile] notasuiciderisk.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, that's okay," Eric said, shaking his head. "I'm just not used to seeing them. We don't use them for currency anymore."

He totally didn't mind that she was taking the mints, but he did feel compelled to ask, "Want your own box?"

Eric shook his head. "No, it's fine," he said, laughing. "As long as you don't mind me stealing some of your popcorn in return."

The concessionist handed over the rest of their purchases, and led the way towards the cinema proper. "Just through here," Eric explained. "I tend to like sitting in the middle of the theatre, but we can sit somewhere else if you'd like."

Eric, his hands full with his soda and junior mints, leaned over to snag a kernel with his lips, flipping it deftly into his mouth when he pulled away. "Yes," he said, in an equal monotone, though laughter wasn't far behind it. "That would be very, very wrong."

"Subtle, Karla," Eric retorted, sticking out his tongue. "Anyway, that's the projection booth. There's a kind of machine there that's what puts the movie up on the screen. I can probably find a book on it if you want? On how it works, I mean."

Eric laughed. "Told you it was loud," he said, right by her ear, as he settled in to watch.
