The Gig, Friday [6/5]

Once the horses were fed, groomed, and sent into the paddock, Dani retreated to the office and spent a while on the phone talking to Kris Furillo. She went on for a long time about how awkward she felt waking up yesterday morning with the guy she met at the bar the night before and how awful she felt for not really honoring her dead boyfriend's memory. Kris tried to reassure Dani that R.J. would have wanted Dani to move on with her life and find someone else. It was nice to have someone to share some girl talk with, since Dani wasn't about to call her brother for something like this.

Although "share" might have been the operative word since Dani didn't bother asking Kris how she was doing until the other girl's phone card was about to run out. Kris told her that she was somewhere in Colorado riding horses for an illegal horse racing ring, which worried Dani. She warned Kris to be really careful before the other girl had to hang up.

With that done, Dani headed back to the paddock to watch the horses, though her mind was miles away.

Minsc had some impressively rended platemail that needed fixing, so after his class, he made sure to mosey on down to the Gig to ask about using the forge to fix it. It really was a shame Rosie wasn't around anymore. She could not only have fixed it much better than he could, but he always did enjoy watching her work at the forge, the heat of the coals and her sweat making her face glow red and little curls of her hair drifting around her head like a halo...

...Still, Minsc found himself also thinking that seeing Lady Dani, although she certainly did not possess any of those traits that had made the previous owner so attractive to him, would be rather nice right now, too.

"Lady Dani!" he called out, bold and loud so that she could hear him even if she was out with the horses. "Are you about?"

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"No alligators!" Minsc shouted back. He liked yelling. "Just a man in need of mending some armour! I was wondering," yes, still yelling from the street, "if I may use your forge, Lady Dani?"

There was a pause. Minsc knew he had the words right there, but, for some reason, he really felt the need to clarify.

"And by that I mean the big, hot, gaping hole for putting weapons in and stuff!"

No, that...still didn't sound quite right, but it'll do.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Absolutely!" Minsc shouted back, not seeming to realize at first that the shouting was a little unnecessary now that Lady Dani had come out and joined him. He liked shouting. "Think nothing of it!"

"And thank you," he said, becoming more conversational. "I am no smith, by any means, but Rosie taught me enough that I might fix this." He lifted up the rended armour, knocking on a piece of its chestplate still relatively intact. "Good armour, would be a shame to just let it go to waste!"

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, yes," Minsc said. "Good armour is a good defense. I myself find armoured to be my most natural state. I feel naked without it."

Minsc hadn't intended to waggle his eyebrows a little with the word naked; it just sort of happened.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" Minsc agreed, chuckling at the giggle, as he hefted up his armour and moved in toward the forge. "After all, I am told that is not exactly proper in public."

Although, really, recent events showed that his source on that tidbit of manners was a little...unreliable.

Not that he was complaining.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Minsc paused for a moment, almost to the forge, but not quite, because that, to him, was sounding an awful lot like an invitation. He could be wrong, though. So many things were confusing to him about propriety and what women meant when they said things. After all, just when he thought he had it figured out, Lady Wilhelmina showed up naked at his door and expected otherwise improper things.

So it was all very confusing, and he had a few...ahem, ideas...but he thought maybe he'd better ere on the side of caution and see if another one came around.

He started taking up some of the hammers, carefully weighing and considering them, which just so happened to involve a lot of muscle flexing and arguably some posing.

"You don't say," he said, trying to sound conversational and probably overdoing it spectacularly. "Like what kind of excitement, if I may ask?"

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Minsc chuckled, clearly amused. "Ah, yes!" he said. "Very few things quite meet the rush of excitement that goes all through you when your adrenaline is high! And very few things raise it like a gooooood battle!"

He had a large hammer selected and lifted it up before bringing it down on the anvil with power and a ringing that resounded in the air. "This will do," he said, turning a satisfied grin toward Lady Dani. "Nice and big."

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Minsc grinned at Lady Dani again, confident in the fact that he probably didn't need to remind her that he was very, very huge. He carefully took a piece of the mail between the big iron tongs to heat it in the fire of the forge after getting it to grow and heat with a few powerful pushes of the bellows.

"Training!" he said. "Always training. Got to keep sharp, and fit! Weapons practise, spars. Plenty of phsyical activity!"

"...I am also fond of board games."

But not that damned cursed Scrabble nonsense.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd offer," said Minsc, "to go riding with you, Lady Dani, but I fear for your horses!"

Minsc brain was also on the edge of something else to say there, something either witty or clever or just plain inappropriate, he wasn't quite sure, but he couldn't quite piece it together. He was pretty sure it had more to do with the riding part than the horse part, though, so maybe he'd figure it out.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"There might," Minsc agreed with a snort of a laugh; the armour had taken on a nice glow from the fire, so he brought it to the anvil and began good, strong strokes of the hammer to beat it back into shape with little ringing sounds rising up from each hit, "but I must say, my size might be an unfortunate issue there, as well!"

And, yes, that was rather suggestive of Minsc, but it was true. Lady Dani was very tiny, and Minsc would have known if she had a nice undead quality that would help with that sort of thing.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
...wait a second. That wasn't quite right, Minsc realized. He didn't think he'd actually meant to deter anything here, but it looked like he had anyway. Gnoll snot!

Although it was a good point, and probably better this way, but...

"I am rather fond," Minsc said, over the ringing sounds of him beating his metal, "of the tavern, but what would one do on a beach? Look for carrion crawlers, or sirens, maybe?"

Oh, sirens. Such a challenge! They were so beautiful, but they could do such horrible things to you that you really just had to cleave right through all their pretty, usually very naked flesh...

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I...might be," Minsc said, truthfully enough as he hammered some more. "If I knew what one was."

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
As Lady Dani went into her description, Minsc's hammering became progressively slowly and then all together ceased. He paused a moment, glancing over at her and noting that it seemed rather hot in here all of a sudden.

...oh, wait. He was standing at a forge. Of course it was.

"Er. I...think I might very much like to see that, Lady Dani..."

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"And it is especially hot," Minsc noted, thinking he would very much like to go swimming with the little tiny triangles of bathing suit, "working at the forge like this!"

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is too bad," Minsc agreed, looking down at his armour a moment.

He was thinking. You could almost see it.

"You could...." Almost there. He almost had it. "...You could go get it!" That was it! "And, maybe, while you are gone, I will have enough time to finish this up and then we could try that beach thing!"

With the tiny triangles of cloth.

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Minsc considered the armour, slightly more bent back into shape as the fire cooled down on it, the forge, and his hammer, thinking of how much work there still was to go on it. Lady Wilhelmina had done quite the number on it!

"...Close enough!" he concluded.

He could always just get some new plate sent in from home. The really nice kind. With AC Bonuses enhancements. And cool shoulder wingy things....

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-05 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"And then I shall stay here," Minsc couldn't help grinning back broadly, "beating my metal until your return, Lady Dani."

[identity profile] berserkerminsc.livejournal.com 2009-06-06 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
....Minsc had decided very quickly that he liked this biniki thing. It was not unlike some of the finer things worn by Rashemi women.

And there was nothing quite like a Rashemi woman!

Minsc easily disposed of both hammer and armour, both of them dropping with a dull thunk.

"Ready! Shall we off (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/4016703.html)?" he asked, offering out his arm.
