Trooper Station, Friday

Yeah, okay, so there was only so much time you could spend doing nothing. Which is why Ray had been spending the past couple of days back in the office at last.

Only to find out that, hey, they were still doing nothing. Just in a different location.

He spent most of the day sipping coffee while philosophically staring at his stack of empty paperwork. "Rick," he said, "You ever get the feelin' this place is boring-crazy?"

Ralph just sighed.

[ open station, but I'll be gone in a few hours, so SP warning! ]

Daisy was in this morning with the intention to do a lot of work (okay, a lot of paperwork), what with the prospect of spa stuff later, but she couldn't refuse the urge to take at least a moment's break from the work for some coffee and some Kowalski needling.

"I'm sorry," she said, drifting by his desk on her way to the coffee machine, "who are you again?"

No, it still hadn't gotten old for her.

"You can have this mug if you'd like," said Daisy, offering it out.

Of course, it was Daisy's coffee, so everyone knew what that meant. You could practically dissolve concrete with it.

"Cream or sugar?"

"It'll put hair on your chest," said Daisy, chuckling a little as she decided to be kind and get Kowalski a cup from Coop's. He was her superior, after all, and, besides, she was in a good mood because things were looking upwards toward a successful week without a single Sexy Uniform Related Incident. She felt back in her game.

"Troopers were taking bets on what the next thing that shows up to be fought will be," she said conversationally as she brought the coffee over. "Ralph's got this theory about meerkats..."

"Ralph," corrected Daisy, almost automatically, as she set the mug down for Kowalski. "It's Ralph. He says meerkats because the alligators were big, so the next one's going to be small but shamelessly modded trooper name Jim says it's got to be something fantastical, like pixies or something. I guess he counts alligators as fairly normal, even if they do shoot goldfish out of their mouths."

"Ralph." Really, it was a reflex at that point, the new crusade ingrained in a part of her brain she couldn't control anymore. She couldn't help it; clone equality was a topic very close to her heart now. "And why tigers?"

"Ralph," Daisy said again, and probably would for all of eternity, sending the trooper an apologetic, I'm trying here smile. "But that does make a lot of sense, sir. If I was more the betting type, I could see myself throwing me lot in on that one."

Daisy shook her head. "That's never going to leave me, is it?" she asked, though she was grinning.

It probably didn't help that she kept referring to it, but...

"Ralph," said Daisy. "And, no, he likes to make little prancing motions about the whole thing. But that's fine. I was just doing my job, you know. Which I should maybe get back to; I've got a decent stack to blow through if I'm going to be getting out of here early today."

"Hey," said Daisy, "I'm only going to make up for the fact that I missed out on the last meeting due to alligators."

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2009-06-12 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I know," Daisy nodded. "Much more important. But that doesn't stop me from feeling bad about missing it."

Daisy opened her mouth to say something, closed it, frowned at Kowalski for a moment before commenting, "I like to just call it dedicated."

"Well," said Daisy, smiling faintly, "that means I've got at least nine good solid years of excellent service to still put in."
