Cafe Fina, Sunday

It was bound to happen, really.

The dishes had listened to last night's radio broadcast.

And it was only a matter of time before one of them slipped up and called Zack 'Puppy.' And once one of them had done it, there was no turning back. Ever. The whole crew was doing it, soon enough.

This led to a good deal of pouting, from Zack. Puppyfaces, the dishes insisted.

Zack knew that he was fighting a losing battle when the pepper shaker proudly presented him with a people-sized dog collar with his name etched into the tag.

Cafe Fina was open. And in a very puppyful mood, apparently.

[The dish ran away with the spoon, which is normal around here, but it took the OCD along with it. I'll catch pings when I'm home from work later today!]

Momoko had a very important question to ask as she skipped through the door. She raised her hand in greeting and looked around for someone to help her.

"Hi hi! Uhm, can someone tell me what a 'playful puppy cupcake' is?"

Well, it was important to her! If there was a new type of cake available at her favourite place to eat, she totally had to know about it.

"Oh, hi!" Zack grinned and waved hello... While attempting to swat the pepper shaker off as it tried to make him try on that new collar. He didn't need a dog licence, thanks. "It's pretty much what it sounds like! A cupcake that's all decorated up to look like a puppy!"

There was amused tittering from the dishes, and Zack sighed and gave in, letting the now-victorious pepper shaker collar him. He'd take it off, later.

"Which I guess is the theme of the day."

[Is SP okay? It's pushing midnight and I needs must sleep!]

"Ahh! Cuuute! I will totally order a meal to get one of those! Why is the theme about puppies?" She leaned closer to watch as the collar was put on. "Is that why you're wearing a collar? If it's not, that's totally fine and cool, because it kind of looks cute on you."

[Totes. :) Good night!]

"Deadpool called me a puppy on the radio last night," Zack replied, a light blush on his cheeks as he slipped his finger under the collar to make certain that the pepper shaker didn't fasten it too tightly. "I think the staff is a little fixated on that, now. Hence, the collar."

Big grin! Ah well!

"I'm Zack, by the way! Welcome to Cafe Fina! What can I get for you, cupcakes aside?"

[Yay! Good night!]

"Mister Deadpool was probably just being funny. I took one of his classes last summer and he was really nice! I'm Momoko! Momoko Akatsutsumi!" Momoko returned his big grin, adding a few watts. "I was actually just going to get a dessert, but I saw the sign and wondered what a puppy cupcake was, and now I totally want one. Do I have to get a fancy and expensive meal?"

After all, it was a puppy cupcake.

Oh, she was happy. That was awesome!

"Nope, you can get just the cupcake if you really want to!"

Zack had no idea if she could or not, but he couldn't say no to a smiling face, and if the dishes didn't like it then he'd just puppyface at them until they gave in. Resistance was futile!

"Do you have any preference between chocolate or vanilla?"

Oh sure, let them try to keep her from cakes. We'll see how that works out for them.

Yay! He was really nice! "You are super nice! Are you the one working the Sunday shift now? I usually come in on Sundays." Momoko tucked her arms behind her back and considered her options. "Hmmm. I like both when it comes to cakes, but I'll have a chocolate, if that's okay? Or are the vanilla ones cuter? I know they both have to be totally delicious."

"They're all pretty cute," Zack laughed. "Chocolate can be done!"

And then, after a thoughtful beat, he grinned and held up a finger. "Now, would you prefer a terrier, or a bulldog?"

Momoko held up her own finger. "Terrier, please! Much cuter."

"And more energetic, too! Pretty fitting when you're eating so much sugar all at once," Zack agreed, and then bounced again for good measure. "So, this is your usual Sunday hangout now, huh? I am the new Sunday guy, yeah, so maybe I'll see you around here again sometime!"

Momoko laughed. "I eat a lot of sweets, all the time! See?" She reached into her pockets and held up an armful of different candies and snacks. "I'm always prepared for a snack emergency!" She grinned. "But fresh cakes are my favourite. I like coming here because there are so many different desserts and some of my friends work here, so I visit a lot on days that they work!"

"I need to come in on my days off more often to meet the coworkers," Zack mused, and then glanced sideways at the assembled dinnerware. "The ones who aren't going to try to dress me up like a dog, I mean. I'm usually so busy with schoolwork and the different reserve groups, it doesn't even occur to me to come in and meet my coworkers, you know?"

"They like you! Have they done a dance number for you yet? They're really good at it!" Momoko slapped her palm with her fist. "That's right! 'Local boy makes good'! You took Reno's spot at the reserves! I remembered on Tuesday that you looked familiar! And you're in my TV class! You want to be a hero, too!"

"Heh, you know that Reno guy too, huh? He must have gotten around," Zack noted amiably. "He and I are from the same world, from what I've heard. So I'm kind of taking his position as replacement resident of Gaia in the reserves lineup. There's a quota they have to fill, I think."

He was totally joking. You could tell by the way he was grinning, there. It was minutely different from the way he was grinning any other time. Honest.

"Come to think of it, I have seen you in TeeVee, too! You want to be a hero? Hey, we could form a club!"

It would be a very... enthusiastic club.

"Whoa! That's cool! Really? I'm the only one from my world here! Or at least as far as I've been able to tell!"

Momoko leaned closer to see if there was any resemblance or any particular... anything, that looked like he and Reno came from the same place. "He was my big sib's boyfriend. He was really nice, but we have different ideas about some stuff. Like my wanting to be a hero of justice and be in the reserves at the same time. But we both love flying, so I think we're still friends even though he graduated and went home."

The only real resemblance ~~besides the spikey Square-Enix hair~~ that was really to be found was probably the blue mako-eyes. And even then, Zack's eyes were a far more vibrant shade of blue than Reno's. The SOLDIER treatment was much, much more thorough so far as that was concerned.

"I've never really met the guy, but with the way people talk about him, he seems pretty cool," Zack decided ~~while totally stroking his mun's ego~~, "Being a hero is a good dream, though. I've had a few people around here kind of... disagree with it. But I don't care. I'm going to embrace my dreams anyhow. You should do the same!"

Momoko pulled back, rocking on her heels and deciding that the pretty pretty blue eyes was probably just a coincidence. She nodded at him enthusiastically. "Oh, yeah. Reno was really cool, but he didn't seem happy all the time! And he was looking out for me, when he said that stuff, I know, but it kind of made me sad, still!"

She thought for a moment. "You know, you're right! I just have to become a better hero of justice, and show him that it is possible! And you too! Then when you go back home, you can show him, too!"

"If I ever meet him," Zack laughed a little. "I didn't even know who he was until I came here. But I have to agree! Embrace your dreams! And, whatever you do, protect your honor as a hero!"

Oh, Angeal would be so proud of him!

Deadpool, possibly not so much?

"You totally get it! You understand!" Zack now had a possible ~~stalker~~ new best friend.

"Well, except that protecting the people comes first. For any hero. But you have to do it right if you're going to be a hero! And that's what honour really is; doing right!" She bounced excitedly. Someone understood!

"And you'll totally meet him someday. He's probably gonna come back here for Homecoming. I'll even try and introduce you!"

"Oh, that'd be great!" Zack bounced! The dishes, concerned for the safety and well-being of the island as a whole, contemplated the benefits of scraping the icing from Momoko's cupcake.

And withholding the ones that they'd set aside for Zack entirely.

They were holding more than one cupcake for him?

"Consider it done, then!" Momoko gave him a victory sign and a beaming smile. "By the way, what class are you? Not that it really matters here, but I'm curious."

And hoping he wasn't a senior.

"Junior," Zack announced, allowing himself a moment to pose at that statement. See? Totally pose-worthy, being a Junior. Really. "You?"

The dishes had been holding more than one cupcake for him. They also vaguely remembered him on Pixy Stix. They were reconsidering the wisdom of these actions very seriously, now.

Wisdom?

"Waah! Me too! Me too! I didn't think I'd make it, but I did!" She didn't pose so much as cheer. He definitely now had a hyper red-headed friend, whether he realised it or not!

Oh, he realized it! He considered her to be a friend the moment they'd gotten introductions aside! That was just how Zack rolled.

"Hey, good for you!" Bounce! Grin! He was cheering too! "Let's see if I manage to make it all the way through to grad, huh?"

The dishes were now fearing for their lives.
