Cabot and Associates - Tuesday - 6/23

Fiona did her usual morning duties, watering the plant and dusting the shelves, before taking up her place behind the desk. Her mind wasn't on the work at all, but she forced herself to focus on the Jenner case, as one of her notes reminded her she was reasonably certain that she'd found a loophole in some of the case information which would allow certain testimony that previously would have been considered ineligible. She couldn't be sure until she started digging, though, and thus she got straight to work.

Why was he there? Griff wasn’t so certain, but it was one of those things he did near-regularly and maybe he should’ve reconsidered it but, if Fiona seemed busy, he’d make his excuses and flee with ease.

“How’s saving the world going today?”

She closed the book (with a slip of paper in it; she was excited, not stupid) as soon as she saw him and slipped out from behind the desk.

"Just fine," she told him cheerfully. Leto had explained things, she'd just apologize to Arthur, things would be fine, and Griff didn't mind her father. And had visited!

"It's good to see you," Fiona continued as she reached out a hand, "I almost went looking for you last night but I kind of drained myself getting upset yesterday."

It was impossible not to match her cheery attitude and he smiled, stepping up to take her hand.

“I heard you weren’t having the greatest time of it yesterday but you seem quite happy today.” Which was a good thing.

She grinned a little more and gave his hand a squeeze.

"Misinterpreted something," Fiona told him with a touch of a blush, "and it got me upset. Leto explained that Merlin's just a dork, though, so that's all done. I'll talk to Arthur at the reserves today."

She looked over at him.

"And my dad and my brother both made it home all right, and you're here. So I'm good."

“Misinterpreted? I would ask but it seems all cleared up,” he replied, still slightly curious about this Merlin fellow.

“How was the rest of your visit this weekend?” He hoped he hadn’t made things weird just by getting coffee on a Saturday morning. It would be a good reason to consider altering his routine.

"He made me think Arthur didn't feel safe around me, like I'd hurt him," she explained, "Mostly me just being twitchy. Not his fault. I'll probably talk to him at Tony's party tonight."

She leaned against the counter.

"The rest of the visit was fine. Eliot recorded a song for Peyton and we talked and we spent some time in the park with our dad."

She ducked her head a little before glancing over at him.

"Had a lot of questions about you, but I kept it mundane. Like I said, not my secret."

"Oh, I'd forgotten there was a party," he said, recalling there had been an email or something.

"I appreciate that," he said a little sheepishly. "I'm not really used to being very open about it - even with people aren't from my world."

"I haven't told too many people my weirdness either," she told him with a wry smile.

"Want to go with me? To the party, I mean."

"Um, yeah, sure," he agreed, a little surprised but not against the concept. "It's at the ice cream shop, right? Will that be weird?"

She shrugged.

"It'll be all right."

Then she gave him a sideways smirk.

"Maybe that means you get twice the ice cream."

His lips twisted into a smirk. "That could be a significant enticement."

She shifted a little closer to him, nudged his shoulder with hers.

"Yeah, yeah," she said, giving a mock pout "you only like me for my ice cream."

He nudged her right back, ignoring the heat he was feeling along the tips of his ears. "It is supposed to be the best ice cream on island."

She gave his hand a light squeeze before nudging him again.

"I get anything to make up for the ice cream?"

"I might bounce off the walls as a result," he considered.

She rolled her eyes and looked over at Griff.

"That wasn't what I meant. Might be amusing to watch, though."

"So what did you mean?" Griff wondered, nudging her with his elbow. "Since amusement is not enough."

She blushed pink, to her ears even. How did you say that kind of thing? Why couldn't she say that kind of thing to Griff.

"I don't know," she admitted hurriedly, ducking her head. "Something--I--"

You've faced down a demon lord and you can't ask the boy you like for a kiss?

"Another kiss?"

So much harder than dealing with her crazy Infernal relatives. So. Much. Harder.

She always went for the unexpected. Or, he considered he could be a failure at knowing how these things worked.

"Um," he gulped, wondering briefly if she was asking the right person. "This must be some ice cream."

She gave him a quick, nervous smile and shifted just a little. It put a few of the curls between himself and her, blocking her eyes even if her mouth was still smiling.

"I don't know. Never got to have any. But... I don't know. You can have it either way."

Her teeth were clenched behind her lips, starting to make her head ache, but there was no outward sign of that. She'd made sure.

He caught the nervous look and somehow it helped his own nerves.

"You know I was teasing," he said, reaching up to push her hair back behind her ear if she'd let him. "No taking the offer back now."

She let him, and she turned her head to smile at him too.

"Not planning on it," she told him, her expression even a little goofy. Relief and giddiness were easy enough to read in her eyes and she tilted her head to nudge his hand encouragingly.

His fingers brushed down over her cheek too easily.

"Sooo, maybe I should make a prepayment. You know, half now and then half when I see ice cream," he suggested.

There was one brief half-an-instant where she considered what might happen if her boss happened to peek out or caught her or--

Oh who cares? You do your job. It's like taking a smoke break. Only... with a boy. And healthier.

"I think it would only be fair," she agreed with mock solemnity.

He nodded, leaning closer. "You should get to test out what you're trading for."

She leaned a little closer herself, eyes open and looking at his.

"Absolutely."

That look in her eyes made it too easy to lean the rest of the way in to kiss her lightly.

She leaned into the kiss, swaying on her feet an inch or two as her hand found it's way to the side of his face, her fingers playing a little with his hair.

It would have been even easier to take a step closer, but he'd said half and tried to have some self control. He pulled back slightly. "Okay." It was all the boy could manage just then.

She grinned, blushing, and looked up with a nod.

"About what'd be proper at work. If it can be proper at work."

"Right, I should let you, uh, work," he stammered, a little ashamed he'd come up with the idea. Griff took a step back, thankfully not stumbling over his own feet.

She held onto his hand.

"But you'll be back for me later, right? Give me something to look forward to?"

"That's a promise," he replied, squeezing her hand before gently letting go so he could make his exit.

She made for the desk again, still smiling.

"Good. Then I'll work extra hard so I'm all ready when you come by."

When/if she pings in!
