Steve had left his phone behind when he went for his morning run, and there was a message from Natasha on it when he returned: his presence was requested in DC that night, no details. It was weird, but not unheard of, and the day Natalya Romanova wasn't vague in a voicemail was the day she'd hang up her stingers. But the news couldn't be good or she would have just told him. He knew it couldn't be something about Bucky. She wouldn't have waited to tell him something about Bucky, and she wouldn't have made him come to her. But he couldn't figure out what it could be.

So Steve would just be here working on his bike to keep his hands occupied and pretending he wasn't worrying himself sick.
