Frozen mochachino. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Dinah had had a craving, now that classes were done, and was now considering where she wanted to run to or jump off of, once she had enough caffiene and sugar in her system. Frothy, yuuum.

George had been thinking about something for the past several days; had, in fact, been trying to get up the courage. Since this was, in fact, pretty much the last possible day he could ask Dinah to the dance without seeming entirely last minute, he'd elected to purchase some caffeinated courage, first.

Yeah. That was a smart idea.

As is was, though, when he wandered into the Perk, he noticed Dinah before he even got to the counter. "Hi!" he said, waving a little excitedly. "I was just thinking about you! I mean, not thinking about you, but there's something I've been meaning to ask you, and I totally understand if you don't want to." He stopped for breath.

"Mmmmph?" Dinah swallowed and blinked at George, having followed that with the aid of SuperSugarPowers, but not totally sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. "Okay? I mean, go ahead and ask. Want some mochachino?"

George shook his head. "I'll pass, thanks, I'll be getting something of my own in a second. But! Uh. So. Do you have a date for the dance tomorrow?"

"Noooo," Dinah said, blinking. She'd half-forgotten about the dance in the end-of-classes and trip to Arrakis. And obvious connection is obvious. She beamed at George, surprised.

"Uh. Good! I mean, not good that no one asked you, but good because it means I can ask you! Which I'm doing. Asking you to the dance. Um. Do you want to go to the dance? With me?"

"Sure!" Dinah grinned at him and took another sip of her mochachino. "I was just going to go on my own, but it'd be nice to have a date. Thanks! You haven't been to a dance here before, have you?" And cool!

George shook his head. "Not yet, no," he affirmed. "This'll be my first. Do, uh, people usually dress up? I mean, is it all formal, or casual, or somewhere in between?"

"Kind of in between?" Dinah kicked her heels under the table and gave George a reassuring smile. "I'm not going to dress up too much, if that helps? Just heels and a nice dress. Nothing really fancy. But you know some people go all out no matter what."

"So, not a suit, then, but say a nice shirt? And a tie, and a pair of slacks..."

George was so totally going to end up looking like bar staff. Or a waiter.

Well, he could get her drinks then! That's what good dates did, right? As long as he didn't turn into a girl on the dance floor, this would work out better than her last dance date.

"That should work," Dinah agreed, pleased. "Are you going on the field trip to Arrakis next week? Sand dunes and giant worms and riding in alien helicopters?"

"Field trip?" George had missed that announcement. "No, I hadn't heard about it," he admitted. "But it sounds like fun! You're going, then?"

"Uh-hunh! It's a little short one, we'll only be gone a day and a half, Tuesday and back mid-day on Wednesday," Dinah said, coaxing entering her voice. "My Terrain teacher set it up. It'll be fuuuun?"

Keeping in mind all the things Dinah thinks are fun.

"Oh, are sign-ups still open?" George asked. "I mean, it does sound like fun, yeah."

For given values of 'fun'.

"Yup! 'Til Monday, at least," Dinah said, kind of hopefully. "I think you'd like it, Professor Atreides programmed the Danger Shop to look like it last week, and Zack and I had an awesome time exploring it."

"Sounds like lots of fun! I'll have to sign up, then." George grinned. "So, shall I pick you up at your room tomorrow, then? And we can head down together?"

"Sounds good," Dinah said, finishing off her drink, then grinned. "Want to race me back to the dorms? I'll let you fuel up on your coffee of choice first."

George nodded, grinning; things were just starting to ramp up for him from his low-point, and he'd welcome the opportunity to stretch his limbs. "Who needs coffee?" he asked. "Let's go!"
