Morgan's Hardware - Monday, 7/06
Morgan was damn proud of his work, since he'd spent most of the weekend when not driving friends here on fixing up the shelving, displaying the merchandise properly, and cleaning up the shop... which was why he put up a few of decorations from the Fourth of July, as well as a banner proclaiming it the 'Grand Opening!'. Of course, right below it was the more important information. There was the thought that maybe he shouldn't be so damn blatant since who was to say if Reid would be wandering the town, but he figured he wasn't really undercover, so why give a damn?

Re: Morgan
Yeah, Reid could bitch and pout all he wanted, but there was no way on EARTH that Morgan was leaving him alone in this place. No. Way. On. Earth.
Re: Morgan
"And see, you having met Dinah makes it easier--she's from one of those worlds that's like this one but some people have powers," as Ino picked her words carefully to avoid saying that Dinah herself had powers, "and I'm from a world that's loads closer to Feudal Japan, but with television and radio and powers."
And a deep abiding fondness for fishnet clothing. It was everywhere.
Re: Morgan
"Right."
Well, that was two people mentioning the rain of glitter, and everything about how she was speaking said she wasn't lying; they might have a 'no profiling' code when it came to each other, but Morgan wasn't about to leave his skills at home in a situation like this.
"Which is why you don't need college?" he finally got out.
Re: Morgan
Re: Morgan
This was going to take a little time to digest, but he didn't really have time to digest it. He'd have to move up that trip to the Trooper station, for one.
"So anything I should be aware of in general?"
After all, he wasn't completely unarmed; he had his badge and his gun in the back office with his laptop, but if there were mutant alligators...
Re: Morgan
"Well," Ino said, considering it. "Pretty much, if it doesn't attack you, don't attack it, is a pretty good rule of thumb--can you fight anyway?--for here. Most of the weird comes in either a twenty-four hour or forty-eight hour variety, though sometimes it lasts as long as a week. People tend to get turned into animals at some point, and oh, beware of the gremlins--they're small, green, and if they bite you you'll wind up doing totally embarrassing things."
Ummm.
"Sometimes," she said slowly, "we get things that invade and try to take over, and they tend to wind up hurting people. There's the cops, and the reserves--fighting, magical, support--now for people to help out during invasions."
...
"...and a good half the students fight and do it well," she said. "So treating us like we're defenseless little kids tends to go down poorly. It's better to work with us than to not."
Re: Morgan
"I do Judo classes at Quantico, if that tells you anything," though after it was out of his mouth, he figured out it might not.
"Yeah, I can fight. And I've got my sidearm."
Twenty-four to fourty-eight hour 'weirdness' and--
"Gremlins? Really?"
But most importantly, there was--
"I used to be a cop," he told her slowly, "and I'm still FBI" not that he could do much without being asked by the local authorities "so I'll have to see what's goin' on at the police station later today."
He didn't say anything about treating the kids like they were defenseless; being overprotective was kind of what he did. He would, however, make sure to at least try and keep it in mind when he did something stupid.
"And don't treat you like kids. Got it. I'm assuming that includes you?"
The girl was small and blond, not to mention the fact that the way she'd worded it spoke of having heard those words or having dealt with that kind of thing personally.
Re: Morgan
A beat.
"If you want to practice with your gun, there's a shooting range at Wellspring Arms," she added frankly. "You'll need permission from the owner, who is also the Mayor, to use it, so bring your ID. No one not on the list gets to use the range. And if you want a better idea of how well people can fight 'round here, there's Fight Club on Sunday nights at the gym in town."
Re: Morgan
"Hey, I wasn't testing you. Just letting you know I get it. You're not the only one who'd gotten judged on first appearances, you know what I'm saying?"
While it'd been years ago now, he'd never forget that voice over the phone, calling him nothing but 'beefed up muscle' for the BAU team. He didn't believe it for a second, but it still irritated him that that pumped up asshole had said it.
"I'll have to go see about the range with the mayor, but... Fight Club? That what it sounds like?"
Hell, he'd seen one of those go deadly once. Might be best if he went to go look.
Re: Morgan
"And--pretty much, if you think it's a club that the thing is fighting? It's run by two of the teachers: Ghanima Atreides and Tyler-sensei. Er, Tyler Durden. They pick a few pairs each week for a fight in each division, we've got two divisions--beginner-through-intermediate and advanced--and then there's free sparring. They'll step in if it gets out of hand, or if someone can't continue but the other doesn't stop. If you've got powers, you've got to get permission to use them each fight, or fight without powers."
Re: Morgan
"You said that's Sundays at the gym?"
He was definitely stopping in.
Re: Morgan
Re: Morgan
"I'm not much for watching, don't you worry."
Morgan looked around the store for a moment before glancing back at Ino.
"There something in here I can help you with? You mentioned some interest in custom carpentry?"
Re: Morgan
She got enough flack for three jobs, come on.
Re: Morgan
Re: Morgan
"But, yes, commissioning. I was thinking 'bout some shelves," she said, considering. "For plants, I mean."
So Ino's army could grow.
Re: Morgan
Re: Morgan
"--and, uh, this is a bit weird, but do you think a shelf with a... trellis heading up to the ceiling would be doable?" Ino: had no idea.

Re: Morgan
"Anyone else you know's looking for a job, send 'em my way? That's all."
The quicker he had the place staffed, the easier it'd be for him to get his normal work done.
Re: Morgan
You know, with a really attractive owner.
Re: Morgan
"Couldn't ask for more. Much appreciated, Ino. I won't keep you any longer, though.
"And I'll be waiting for that message."
