Cabot and Associates - Tuesday - 7/07

Fiona got to work early, with a little bag stuffed full of exercise clothes under her arm. The bag was stashed, the office was cleaned up, the plant was watered, and then the door was open as she took up her place behind the desk answering phones. Today's mission? Find the precedent she needed to make a certain piece of evidence admissible.

As promised, toward the end of her shift, a boy wandered through the open doorway with a cup of coffee.

"How's the law managing itself today?" Griff asked, coming to a stop in front of the desk.

She looked up and closed her book, glancing at the clock. She'd found the precedent she needed, but she had been looking to make sure that it hadn't been overturned in any of the other books before she presented it to Alex.

"I don't know. How do you think it manages in general?"

"'M not one to put much faith in the law, or those who enforce it," he admitted. "But you seemed hard at work there."

"Trying to find out if a precedent is still valid to allow a certain piece of evidence to be admissible."

She moved the book aside, careful to mark her place, before starting to write a note to her employer on her progress.

"You have your coffee already or are we stopping on the way?"

"This should do since there's little time for drinking while I'm trying to stop you from beating me up," he teased, taking another sip from his cup while considering the difference between her clothes and his own shorts and t-shirt. "Which you may need to change for."

She pulled the bag up from under her desk with a triumphant grin.

"Planned for."

"No need to make a stop at your room then," he said, grinning back and approving of her preparedness.

She grinned and slipped out from behind the desk, about five minutes before her shift was supposed to be over, but she regularly came in early so she didn't think too much of it.

"Come on. Let me get this place ready for closing and we can go."

"I will assist you by standing here and finishing my coffee," he suggested. "Unless there's something I can do that is actually helpful."

She shook her head as she worked before reaching out for his hand on her way to the door.

"Come on."

He took her hand, letting her lead him. "You're very eager," he remarked, amused and again, pleased.

She tugged him out the door and grinned back at him.

"I want to learn. And I like spending time with you. And you offered. And it's on the beach. We're going to the beach, right?"

"Our little place?" as she wanted to be sure.

"You'll see when we get down there," he teased. As if there was some other spot where he practiced in the sand.
