Luke's Diner - Tuesday

Prince Edward was in a funk. Ever since class yesterday he was thinking about the hundred girls for him that Professor Stinson told him about. How was that possible? And why should he dump Adora? It was all terribly confusing and his brain was hurting. His heart felt a bit sore. Woe.

He waved at the peasants and slumped into a booth, putting his head in his hand. He would contemplate the weary feeling on his shoulders until he felt the need to move.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Tomato Soup

Woe.

Ino bounced in, mostly to prove to him that ha, see, she could totally be happy oh em gee when she noticed him and stopped. "Ed--"

"--who kicked the puppy?" Ino asked.

Good job, Ino, because he'd totally get what she meant by that.

He looked up at that, eyes wide and hurt. "Someone kicked a puppy?"

"Figuratively," she said, wandering over to sit by him. "Not literally."

He didn't understand figuratively so was still woeish at her.

Ino was--just going to try and pat him on the arm.

"No one kicked a puppy," she said, torn between hilarity and feeling bad for him. "Just me being overly clever--what's got you so down?"

She could pat him on the arm all she wanted.

"That is good news on both counts," he said, his voice quiet. So so odd for Edward. "Thinking." Which he wasn't used to doing so it was hurting his head.

"About what?" she said, drawing the word out.

And bravely resisting the urge to make say anything at all along the lines of 'and you're clearly finding it difficult!'. Ino was not the nicest of people, really she was a brat, but she wasn't going to deliberately hurt his feelings. She liked Edward, after all. So even if she thought something uncharitable, she'd keep it in.

"Maybe I can help?" Ino wheedled. "I'll even," god help her, "sing for you, if it'd help, come on."

Damn him.

Apparently those cute three words of hers took immediate precedence over his thinking.

"You'd sing for me?" That touched his heart.

"If it'd make you feel better?" Ino said, because she hadn't been sure at all of what else she could do to make him feel better.

It might not cure the confusion that was his brain, but it would make him feel better. Everything was better with song and Ino's was sweet.

"I believe it would," he told her, his blue eyes big and puppyish.

Ino considered, keeping in mind the fact that her happy was different than Edward’s and sang the first song that came to her mind that fit the criteria, she hoped, of ‘happy’. ~~It also happened to be playing on the mun’s radio, but shhh~~.

”I'm five years old
It's getting cold
I've got my big coat ooon

And look up smiling at you
I run and run~

Past the pumpkin patch
And the tractor riiiides
Look now -- the sky is gold
I hug your legs and fall asleep
On the way home.”

Ino gave him a smile, and cast a glance to see if the rest of the staff were paying attention.

”I don't know why all the trees change in the fall
I know you're not scared of anything at all
Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day
With you toooday.

I'm thirteen now
And don't know how my friends
Could be so mean

I come home crying and you hold me tight and grab the keys

And we drive and drive
Until we've found a town
Far enough away

And we talk and window-shop
Until I've fooorgotten all their names

Don't know how long it's gonna take to feel okay
But I know I had the best day

This was Ino’s favourite part, really:

“I have an excellent father
His strength is making me stronger
God smiles on my little brother
Inside and out
He's better than I aaam.”

It was a terribly long song, but Ino didn’t think Edward would mind.

“I grew up in a pretty house
And I had space to run
And I had the best days with you

There is a video
I found from back when I was three
You set up a paint set in the kitchen
And you're talking to me

It's the age of princesses and pirate ships
And the seven dwaaarfs
Daddy's smart
And you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide wooorld.”

Ino grinned a bit at him, even while continuing on:

”Now I know why all the trees change in the fall
I know you were on my side
Even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
Staying back and waaatching me shine

And I didn't know if you knew
So I'm taking this chance to say
That I had the best day
With you toooday...”

She finished, flushing, and waited to hear what he’d say. It was happy, right? Kinda slow and sweet too, but happy?

She'd completely captivated him and his eyes didn't once flicker away from her face. He would blink slowly occassionaly, entertained by her voice but lifted by the words she sang.

It was a lovely song. Sweet and happy and he wanted to hug her close and tight for singing him this song he would remember always. He might not have understood every word, but he understood most of it and the song warmed his heart.

And he didn't mind at all the length. She could have continued for as long as she felt like singing and he wouldn't grow bored with it.

"That was beautiful," he said sincerely a moment after the song ended. "Thank you, Ino. My heart feels warm and I feel better. What do you call this song?"

She flushed. "It's called 'The Best Day'," Ino said. "By a singer named Taylor Swift. Her songs are all over the radio."

"It's lovely. I think you should sing that if we do another performance together." Notice he said 'if'.

She did notice it. "If?" Ino asked, poking him lightly.

He looked down. "If you want to. I won't push you or wish to embarrass you."

"Okay, look," she said firmly. "No more woe-is-me today, you hear me? It's a bad look for you."

Okay, it wasn't, but it was weird.

"How 'bout this? I'll call you when I feel like going out and singing? That way you can't say you made me, right?"

A bad look? He looked bad? WOE.

"I would be honored if you called and asked me to sing but I won't get my hopes up in case you don't. That is most agreeable, Ino." He even gave her a small smile proving it.

Severe allergies are killing my head omg.

*huuugs*

*huuugs* I took druuuugs. :D Hopefully they'll kick in soon.
