Luke's Diner, Wednesday Evening

Bobby had learned quite a few interesting things since arriving in Fandom. One of those things was that some of his new friends had sadly never experienced the awesomeness that is things like cheeseburgers. So after figuring out where in town one would go to get such things, he handwavily contacted Kyle and George and told them to meet him at Luke's Diner. Time to educate them on some of the finer things in life. Well... finer if you were Bobby Drake, anyway.

[ooc: expecting two, but open, sure. luke's posted with permission from [livejournal.com profile] laceycantlie since there's no PC employee today.]

Kyle was wary at first of more Bobby Drake Introductions to Food after his stomach ache last night, but the medication Doctor Jones gave him worked like a charm and he was feeling human enough again to eat. He promised himself he wouldn't go overboard, headed down into town to find Luke's Diner and walked in.

This was a lot like diners he'd seen before, only with electricity, people, actual food and no threat of the roof coming down on them. "I'm not having ice cream today," he said by way of introduction.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"D'you have somethin' against ice?" George asked, coming in just in time to hear that. "Or is it cows that ye don' like?"

He was having a very good day.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Burgers sound good." No, he'd never had a burger before either. Giant wheat fields were kind of a give away to the machines. "Burgers are those things with bread and meat right? Some of the guys in the Resistance used to dream about them." And sing Cheeseburger in Paradise.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Bread and meat?" Yeah, that sounded just about perfect to George. "In a pie, y'mean?"

Really, he was fine just eating whatever as long as it stayed still. Someone hadn't learned Kyle's lesson.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Vegetables are good," Kyle declared matter-of-factly. No, he hadn't indulged in any yet. "How do we get burgers?" He was a step ahead of himself as they hadn't even gotten a seat yet.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"We'll need t'sit down first," George said. "An' wait fer th' lasses to come around with food an' ale." He was still pondering pie though. "Would there be cherry pie? Tis almost like vegetables, fruit is."

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe the lasses will know," Kyle mused as they walked towards a booth. Booths were superior to regular tables.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
George took a seat that faced as many of the doors as possible, unable not to keep an eye out. He wasn't sure why Bobby seemed uncertain about the lass situation. How else would they get food unless the lasses brought it?

"What else is good?" he asked curiously, looking around the diner.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle, meanwhile, took a seat that let him be as concealed as possible from the doors. He shrunk down in his seat and started to look through all of the bits and pieces on the table. Mmm condiments.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Soda," George repeated, finding the menu to study it. "An' fried what?"

He looked over at Kyle. "Shall we let th' lad jus' order for all of us then? And save him th' trouble of explainin'?"

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Bobby," Kyle said, seemingly all serious, "our fate is in your hands."

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"So ye say," George teased, giving the lass a smile though he was slightly disappointed in the lack of bar lass outfits. "We're countin' on ye now, Bobby."

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle craned his neck to look around at the diner. "So is this what people usually do after school?"

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Strange for you too?" George asked Kyle easily.

The idea of just sitting and 'hanging out' still seemed too weird to him He was playing with a coin again, unable to keep himself totally still.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle nodded. "I never really spent much time around people until the last few months, and not like this. What about you guys? You always had people around?"

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"This is far less crowded than th' Lower City," George admitted, leaning back in the booth and still flipping his coin over his fingers. "It seems so quiet here. Not enough people runnin' about and sellin' things and stuff."

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Seems weird having people from different places living together without a fight breaking out."

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Seems weird not t'have drawn me knives," George agreed. "An' t'be asked to leave them in a tiny room."

Not that he had left them all there, but...yes.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Seems weird not sleeping with a gun," Kyle added with a nod.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Aye," George said with a shrug. "Th' Lower City's a wretched hive of scum an' villainy." He grinned. "Or so th' nobles say. S'not that bad."

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle nodded at the same time, then spoke after George. "Everyone fights at home. Or they hide, but you can't hide forever, so everyone fights some time." Or they die, but he didn't add that.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
George glanced at him for a long moment before turning his attention to the food. It smelled so, so good. Hey, it'd been at least three hours since he ate.

"Thanks, lass," he said with a smile as the plates of burgers and fries and Cokes were set in front of them.

"Seems t'be more than a few places that are though," he said, trying a fry without hesitation.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"A volunteer army," George repeated, eyeing the ketchup and deciding it looked a bit too much like blood to be trying. "Hadn't heard about that." He took a drink of his soda, surprised at how sweet he was. "'M no soldier."

Not that he wasn't curious.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle had been watching how the others dealt with their food and took the ketchup after Bobby. "I am, but I don't know how my CO would feel about me signing up for another army." He doused his fries with ketchup.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
"What's th' point then?" George asked, curious if reserved about it.

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Leto said something about coordinating for invasions," Kyle shrugged and tried to figure out the best way to handle his burger.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
George watched Bobby's manhandling of the big ass burger and copied him, taking an enormous bite.

It would be a while for him to chew it, yes.

"This is really good," he exclaimed. Then had a thought "...they di'nt make th' burgers out of alligator, did they?"

Not that it so much mattered.

The possibility of alligator burgers didn't seem to bother Kyle, because he copied the other two and took a big bite. "I've never tried alligator, but it sounds good," he said, but it came out unintelligible because of the burger.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Tastes good," George corrected. He wasn't much phased by the possibility of alligator meat either. "'M all for alligators tastin' like this."

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
"What kind of meat is this if it's not alligator?" Only half the words were understandable.

[identity profile] noearsyet.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Cow, I think." George was skilled at understanding mouthful speech. "Tastes like beef, aye?"

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Kyle looked intently at his burger. "Sorry cow." He'd swallowed his bite by now and went for another, stopping only to say "this is really, really good food." The lettuce and tomato and onions and pickles and oh man.
