The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday [7/18]

Mary was having a nightmarish day. There was an older ~~NPC~~ couple who gave her all sorts of hassles when she tried to check them in. Then, they didn't like the first room she gave them, or the second one, or the third room, and so on. Eventually, they found something wrong with every single room in the hotel. Mary was grasping at straws, trying to find some way to make them happy, and finally just offered up her own suite. They accepted, under the condition that housekeeping scrubbed everything from head to toe and removed all of Mary's belongings. So Mary went upstairs to take out off of her stuff and try to figure out where she was going to be sleeping tonight...

And that's when she woke up from the bad dream.

Otherwise, there was nothing remarkable going on today, but after a nightmare like that, Mary was happy to have a quiet day.

Mina had not spoken to Mary in quite some time. This needed to be remedied, she decided. She came into the hotel lobby and smiled.

"It is good to see you, Mary."

"Mina! I love the new hair color," squealed Mary. "It looks really good."

"Thank you," Mina said. "It was a... symbolic gesture, I'd say."

"Symbolic of what?" asked Mary, taking a closer look for any new or missing pieces of jewelry.

"Symbolic of making a new life," Mina said. She definitely wasn't wearing her wedding ring.

"I understand," said Mary, nodding. "I took my engagement ring and had the stone and setting changed. That way, I didn't have to think of him every time I saw it."

"It has more to do than simply forgetting my dead husband," Mina said. "But I won't burden you with that unhealthy business. I merely wanted to say that... we should go out, some evening. Like women do."

This was, in fact, a little awkward. But Mina was trying.

"We could do a spa day," suggested Mary. "It's another good way of putting the past behind you."

"That would be excellent," Mina said. "When would be a good time for you?"

"Any evening next week is good," said Mary. "The nice thing about running this place? I can take a day off whenever I want to!"

"How is your Monday scheduled?" Mina asked. "I would find that most convenient."

"Monday is good for me," said Mary. "I'm pretty much free all day, since I have someone working the front desk for me."

Kyle walked into the lobby with his equipment pack still on his back, his Bryar pistol still in its holster, and his lightsaber still hanging from his belt. "Excuse me," he said. "I need a room."

"We have plenty of those," said Mary, eying the unfamiliar pistol and lightsaber, though she didn't exactly know what they were. "Did you need anything special? Hot tub? King-size bed?"

"No, just something basic will work," Kyle said. "I'm used to sleeping in a cockpit. I think I can manage with a normal sized bed."

"You aren't suspicious, are you?" asked Mary, scanning her room list to see what was available.

"I like to think that I'm not," Kyle said. "But if you need references, apparently the town is filled with people who know me in the future."

"Just checking," said Mary, handing over the key to room 313. "I've seen people demand to be moved to another room just because the number wasn't lucky enough. So, if everyone in town seems to know you in the future, does that mean you're from somewhere in the past?"

Hey, it was Fandom. Stranger things had happened.

"I'm honestly not sure. I'm from a galaxy with a different calendar, so who can tell?" Kyle said.

"That would make it more difficult," said Mary, nodding. "I wouldn't want to know too much about my own future. I'd rather just find out for myself when it happens. You know what I mean?"

"Yeah, I do," Kyle said. "But it would be nice to have some pointers along the way."

"I suppose that could be pretty helpful," said Mary. "There are some things I've been through that I'd rather avoid if I got to do things again."

"I'm sure most people would be with you on that," Kyle said. "If they don't, then they're probably having a pretty boring life."

"Well, you'll find that nothing is boring on this island," said Mary. "We get storms of candy falling from the sky, there are teal deer in the preserve, and we routinely get invaded."

"So I've been hearing," Kyle said. "Is there anything in this town that isn't bizarre?"

Mary had to think about that one for a while. "Well, there's a bowling alley, and I don't think I've seen anything bizarre there," she finally replied.

"Since I don't even know what bowling is, even that might be bizarre to me," Kyle said.

"Really? Then the pool tables will probably seem even more unusual to you," said Mary, amused.

"Pool? Like billiards?" Kyle asked. "No, we have that. That will actually be familiar."

[OOC: The sad thing is, I'm checking all of this stuff on Wookieepedia so that it's accurate...]

"There you go!" said Mary. "At least something will be familiar to you."

"It's definitely better than nothing," Kyle said. "Well, thank you for the room. My name's Kyle, by the way. Kyle Katarn."

"Mary Connell. I'm the owner of this hotel," she replied. "If there's anything I can help you out with, let me know."

"I will. Thanks," Kyle said.

He started off towards the stairs. He was going to appreciate getting the backpack off his back.

Should you prefer the assistance of other hotel staff.

It is cruel and unusual punishment to make a night owl work the early shift.
