Cabot and Associates - Tuesday,7/21

The first thing Fiona did as soon as she was in the office was to make a quick phonecall. The second was to set the little thermos of nectar on her desk near the wall where no one else should be able to snatch it. Then she got to her research, her filing, and answering the phone.

And smiling. She couldn't stop looking at the thermos and smiling.

Apparently Tyler was a glutton for punishment, because after class (and a quick phone call) he had to go and find the other half of the fight that wasn't, even though Ghanima had told him what she'd said.

So there he was in the law offices. "Hi, Fiona. Got a second?"

"Sit down," Tyler said, though he didn't take a seat himself. He tried on a weak smile. "I wanted to talk to you for a second about the fight that didn't happen Sunday. I heard your side from Ghanima, but I had a couple questions of my own."

"I'm fine for now." He shook his head; he was too physically restless to do anything but look like a spaz if he tried to sit. "I'm Tyler Durden, by the way. I don't always do a great job with introducing myself to everyone at the club."

He raised one eyebrow and started with a general question. "So how do you feel about how things went Sunday?"

"Annoyed," he repeated. He could work with that; it was better than the homicidal rage he'd gotten from Ino. "Okay. Annoyed. I get that. And you don't have any problems talking about your powers with me, do you?"

After Ino, Fiona being a little cold was actually completely refreshing. Tyler didn't really like emotions.

"No freaking," he promised. "So -- the way I hear it from other people, is that it's basically a hyperfast learning curve." Yes, he was enough of a geek to say 'hyperfast,' and his tone was curious, not belligerent. "Ino says you steal powers. Do you actually make people you spar against worse?"

"How fast?" Tyler asked, not seeming especially bothered. "Is it like ... you could win any match we threw you into? Or is it a little more subtle?"

He paced a few steps. "And are you from one of the worlds with Tony Stark?" Which was not a namedropping thing; he'd just learned a lot of the American people with powers were from there, and he liked knowing.

"He's not important to this." So there were people with random powers outside that world; good to know. Tyler paced a little more as he listened.

"So, basically, you have a leg up, like how someone gifted" -- and, lord, he hated that term -- "has an easier time of it in school. That ... I have to say, next to some of the people in club that's not a big deal."

"We don't need to know if it won't directly effect a fight," Tyler informed her. "Tell me if it would make you feel better, but I don't need a life story on everyone at club. Half the point of club is getting away from life stories."

"Invulnerable?" Tyler asked, with a look that suggested his thoughts, which ran you gotta be kidding me. "Okay. On the one hand, that's good. It means nobody can break anything. On the other -- you'd still get exhausted, right? Still can be knocked down?"

he was trying to figure out how you knew a fight ended, if one person didn't bruise.

"No, it's fair to tell someone something like that. I might put a time limit on your fights so they don't go until somebody drops dead," Tyler agreed, following her gaze to the thermos. "Did I interrupt your coffee break?"

"Hope you aren't drinking on the job." His tone was almost playful. "Okay. Don't go more than handwavey minutes, if you don't get knocked down and lose before that. And let your partners know before you start. Is that okay?"

He didn't think he was asking much, but he'd been wrong the last time he thought that.
