Biff was behind the counter, as usual, with his head down on it, which wasn't quite usual.

He'd tell you it was a new yoga pose.

It wasn't.

Wellspring Arms is open and sleepy!

Ino had a plan for her evenings, now that they were free, but she needed something first.

"Hi!" she chirped, walking into the store. Weiiird being here when it wasn't her day.

"Tiny chipper person," Biff said, lifting his head up. "What do you need?"

[intraspective]

"Tiny chipper person who also works here," she informed him cheerfully. "So we're co-workers, fancy that. Cable-san OOCly said I could buy a spear."

She grinned at him. "So, really, not hard to guess what I'm here for, right?"

"A yard ornament?" Biff teased.

"Yes," she said mock-solemnly. "A giant pig-sticker of a lawn ornament. Pretty and yet lethal. Best sort of decoration for your lawn ever don't you know."

"And here I was going to offer you something in a nice goose," Biff said. "It comes with outfits!"

[intraspective]

Ino laughed. "Do I look like the sort of girl that'd go for goose?"

"A very lethal goose?" Biff wheedled.

"No thank you," she said primly. "I'll not be deterred. Goose are so last year."

"Hmmm," Biff said. "And nothing will do but a spear?"

"Unfortunately," she said, eyes sparkling. "The very best spear only, please. Suitable for a girl my height."

So many inappropriate jokes, so little time...

Biff restrained himself.

"You know, this is the first time I've ever sold anything."

[intraspective]

Ino was totally aware of the jokes, yes. And it amused her that he restrained them. Probably for the best, though, considering.

"I sold staff once," she said, considering that. "But yeah, it's totally weird isn't it, actually having to sell anything? Probably makes us the weirdest shop around, but..."

She shrugged.

"Whatever, right? We get paid for it!"

"Plus it's a lot of fun annoying people who think they need weapons right now."

[intraspective]

"I'm special," she informed him, just in case he was getting any ideas. "I got permission. But yes, it's totally fun seeing them look at you and be all 'you've got to be joking' and then the dismay when they realize you're not..."

Biff grinned. "Especially the ones who are clearly stupid and it takes them a bit. I've gotten some of them to sing before they realize I'm just fucking with them."

[intraspective]

"Really?" Ino was delighted! "I'll have to try that next time! I just like batting my eyes at them and faking out with 'oh no, sir, by golly, I don't have permission, I'm just a kid...' and so on."

She grinned. "Best way ever to run a shop."

"Tell them it's proving that they aren't angry," Biff suggested, finally going over to get a spear. "Try this one out for size."

[intraspective]

"Proving they aren't angry?" Ino said, tagging after him to take the spear. "'Cause they don't try to kick my butt? And, ack, no way, that one's way too tall."

"Because I can't sell anything to people who seem to want to immediately use that weapon," Biff said, feigning innocence.

[intraspective]

She stuck her tongue out at him.

"Cable-san said I could, do you really think I'd lie when I'm here every Wednesday and he could loom over me and demand to know 'bout my lies and why and he's got the shop bugged, so geez."

A beat.

"Another spear, please."

Biff tossed out a different spear. "Better?"

She caught it, making a face at him.

"N--not bad, actually," Ino said, hefting it carefully. "It's got good balance."

"I do know weapons," Biff said with a smile. "I just don't like selling them."

[intraspective]

She grinned at him, and gave the spear another heft. "I'll take this one," she decided. "And, really now? Do you use any particular one?"

He shook his head. "I stuck with hands and feet. Back when I came from, we weren't allowed to be armed. The people who'd invaded our country got a little upset with the slaves having a way to fight back."

[intraspective]

"Nothing wrong with hands and feet," she said easily. "And, yeah, that sucks. You guys ever take your country back?"

"It apparently took about two thousand years," Biff said with a wry smile. "Ever heard of Israel?"

[intraspective]

She shook her head. "Not really, I mean--that's this world, right? 'Cause sometimes the news says it, but I don't know anything 'bout it." Ino shrugged apologetically. "Different universes, see."

"That it's still in the news should let you know it's not exactly the most stable place on this planet," Biff said. He shrugged. "Part of why I live here."

She considered that. "I'm sorry."

Ino didn't really understand that, but oh well.

"Plus I'm a couple thousand years out of my time," Biff said with a smile, ringing up the price.

She handed over her debit card. "That would do it too," she noted. "Time displacement is fun that way."

"But there I didn't have pizza and miniature golf," Biff said. "It's not bad being here."

She laughed. "Pizza and miniature golf, huh? Don't you wish for, like, flying cars or something?"

"I had enough trouble riding camels," Biff said with a laugh. "I don't need to worry about cars."
