JGOB, Monday afternoon

After hearing about transcendent pigs and meeting someone who'd actually apparently never even heard of his father, Castiel had decided it was time to investigate some of the other religions represented on the island.

He might be forgiven for mistaking the place known as "Jeff the God of Biscuits" for a religious center.

Anyone passing by might spot the angel through the front window, standing in the middle of the the store, sniffing suspiciously at a banana nut muffin.

"I'm aware of the purpose of baked goods," Castiel said, still sniffing the muffin.

An actual baked muffin, of course. Let's all be gutter free, here.

"I'm attempting to ascertain any divine properties it may have."

"You're looking for divine properties in a muffin?" Chuck asked. "Why?"

"It was made by one claiming to be a god of biscuits." Castiel stopped sniffing, and went instead for a careful lick.

It didn't seem very holy to him.

Chuck smirked. "It's just the name of the place. False advertising on several counts because not only is Jeff not a god, his muffins aren't even that good."

"The . . . advertisement is for biscuits," Castiel pointed out pedantically. "But I think you must be correct on the god front." He set the muffin down. "Does Jeff have many followers?"

Chuck shrugged. "I guess so. Seems like some of his stuff is at every school function. I think followers might be the wrong word though. It's a little too serious for someone who makes baked goods."

"Idolatry is a serious matter, Chuck. Whether committed by the follower, or by the leader."

Yes, Castiel had come to the conclusion that Jeff of J,GOB was a cult leader.

"I honestly don't think you have to worry about anybody worshiping Jeff," Chuck said, grinning. "I think you might be taking this too literally."

Yeah. There was a surprise.

When Sam passed by JGOB and peered inside, he was surprised to see Castiel. It felt a little like seeing a teacher away from school, in a normal setting they shouldn't have been in. Obviously, Castiel didn't have to stay at the church, but it felt a little strange seeing him out and about, and Sam felt a bit of a sense of duty to make sure he was doing all right.

"It's safe to eat," he said, watching the sniffing. "Everything here is good."

"It is not holy," Castiel pointed out. "There's no trace of the divine here at all."

Himself excluded, of course.

"I don't know, if you ever saw how Dean looks when I get him pie from here, you might think otherwise," Sam replied.

Castiel blinked at Sam.

"I don't believe I would, no."

It wasn't clear if he actually didn't get the joke, or just chose to ignore it. Or perhaps was playing along.

Castiel's sense of humor was impenetrable.

"Okay, maybe not. But it's still funny to see," Sam said. How had he always imagined that talking to an angel would be easy? "Is this your first time in here?"

"It is, yes. I was hoping to learn more about the varied religions represented on the island."

"You--oooh," Sam said in realization. "There's not really a god of biscuits, as far as I know. I think it's just a name. And I don't know about representation, but there's definitely a lot of different beliefs going on out there. That's kinda what happens when you get people from so many different places."

"So I've been noticing. However, it concerns me that there's a person here who wishes to claim god-hood."

Millie wandered in cheerfully. "Hello. Is there a problem with the muffin?" she asked innocently.

Well, if he wanted other religions, he might as well run into an ex-goddess, yes?

"As a muffin itself, it is nothing extraordinary. However, I don't believe it to be divine."

"Muffins? Asheth, no!" Millie said with a smile. "Some of them taste divien, however."

"I greatly doubt that." Castiel gave the muffin a last, suspicious look, then set it aside. "I shall have to speak with this 'Jeff'. Impersonating a deity is a grave matter."

"Is he?" Millie asked curiously. "Which one?"

Castiel blinked at her. ". . . the god of biscuits."

"Have you met the actual God of Biscuits?" Millie asked even more curiously. "I've often wondered what he or she would be like. Clearly Jeff is not the true one, though somehow I don't think he truly believes he is a god."

"There is no god of biscuits." That he was aware of. And yes, he'd be perfectly willing to admit that if pressed. "And I don't understand why he insists on calling himself a god when he is clearly not so."
