Around Fandom, Early Morning

Early morning and Reese was scowling, which, admittedly, wasn't anything new. The reason behind it was.

Reese was willing to let it go but nooo... someone wouldn't shut-up about it. She opened her water bottle and took a swig, when she turned a corner she saw Aphrodite was already at the starting line.

There was a crisis and she had better things to do but here she was outside, preparing for a foot race. Swell. Reese's scowl deepened. Seriously, how did she get roped into this?

(Aphrodite modded with permission.)

(OOC: Open! Point, stare, and call them crazy. 'Cause they kind of are. Post in SP due to time difference.)

Three, if you counted the guy who'd sort of suggested the thing and thus had tagged along since they'd need someone to serve as starter and judge. It was, at least, a momentary distraction from worrying about something he had no control over.

Aphrodite, on the other hand, smiled sweetly at him. She could always do something evil to him later, especially if she lost.

"So what's our route, oh master of the starting gun?"

"Okay, so," he unfolded the map of Fandom he'd scrounged up. "So, from here down to Apocalypse, then over to Minotaur Lane, then past the park up to Black Swan Drive which'll take you back to Unicorn Street, past the Chinese place, and back here." So it wasn't around the entire island. It was far enough to get the idea across, anyway. It was also a wonder he managed to get through all that without freaking out about the fact that Aphrodite was apparently a goddess holy crap what?

She couldn't believe she'd been angry enough to be conned into this. Things would have been fine if she could have used her powers, but no, Bobby said that wasn't fair, it was a foot race.

Mortals. Fine.

So, here was Aphrodite, at the starting line, in her pink track suit, with special pink running shoes, jogging in place, when she saw Detective Reese approaching.

"Are you ready? I have things to do after I run you into the ground."

"Yeah, yeah." 'Dite made a face at her. "Bobby already said that and I agreed." To at least not zap herself to the starting line.

"Not that I'll need them to beat you, Shorty."

Bobby raised the flag he'd got from... somewhere. He wasn't going to ask questions, really.

"Ooooooon your mark," he said, imitating those starter guys he'd seen in movies and TV. "Get set," pause for dramatic tension, and then: "GO!"

And they were off!

It was kind of a surprise for the goddess of love when Reese blew past her from the starting line, but she soon put on her determined face, and using her longer legs, she started to gain on the Detective as they approached the corner of Unicorn Street and Apocalypse Avenue, pulling nearly even with her.

"Comin' through, Pipsqueak."

She didn't actually see the mocking gesture, but she got the hint from Reese's silence. As they started down the straightaway on Apocalypse, she started to slip a bit. The wind kept catching her training jacket and she quickly grew irritated. With a wave of her hand, the jacket disappeared, replaced by a pink t-shirt. Smiling, she put her head down and sprinted, actually getting a step ahead of the Detective.

Fiona was on the way to City Hall to see if Griff was there when she saw the race.

...and staaaaaared.

Bobby waved from where he was standing, still holding a flag and a map. "I don't even know," he offered. "And this was my idea in the first place."

She didn't really know Bobby, but she'd seen him around.

"...your idea for a race? Between-- what happened? Just, the whole story?"

"Well, they'd gone to get food for the people who were in Town Hall, or something, only I guess things didn't go exactly smoothly 'cause they were arguing pretty loudly when they got back, something about running circles around the other or something," he shrugged. "So I sort of- stepped in, before things could get too much louder. And suggested maybe they run a race to figure out who was faster."

Hands on her hips, breathing hard, Aphrodite nodded.

"I . . . almost beat . . . you . . . Detective." She zapped a bottle of water into her hand and took a long drink. "Are we . . . finished . . . with the race?"

She sincerely hoped so.
