Freelance Police HQ, Sunday

Kyle felt that most people would be focused on the persisting disturbance and probably wouldn't need help from the Freelance Police today. But there was always a chance that something might happen while everyone was distracted. And so he made sure his weapons were ready and the phone was in reach. And, just in case nobody did need anything, he also had Sudoku.

What? They didn't have it in his galaxy. It still seemed interesting.

[OOC: Crazy road trip lasted until 4:30 am. I may be sporadic throughout the day thanks to napping, but I make no guarantees either way.

Also, I shun OCD today!]

There was at least one person too focused on disturbances somewhere else and she was just about ready to be rid of them, thank you. Besides, Daisy knew she wouldn't have any time tomorrow to get her report on concluding the mission, so she did it on the flight home and it was for the best. This way, she could now forget about the whole bloody thing and avoid twine for the rest of her life.

Should be easy, considering she was pretty sure she was now banned from at least four of America's largest balls of it after last week. A small price to pay for either saving the world or wasting her time; she had a whole report on the case and she still wasn't sure which one she'd accomplished.

Either way, she thought to swing by the HQ before hitting up her apartment in the off chance that the dog and the completely bonkers rabbity thing were in, but the fact that the dog and the completely bonkers rabbity thing weren't in and someone else was at least gave Daisy confidence that the report would at least make it to their desk.

"Oh, hullo."

Jet and ball of twine lagged, yes. Passing out, however, no. Thankfully. Daisy smiled a little, lifting up the folder in her hand. "Detective Constable Daisy Day," she offered. "Reporting in from a mission. I'll just leave this on Sam's desk for the next time he's in, if you don't mind."

Because she trusted the dog more than she did the batty rabbity thing.

They would have a reason? Daisy quirked an eyebrow.

"You haven't been working here long, have you?" she asked, drying, as she went to go put the case report on the desk.

And, in a moment of inspiration, also grabbed a pen and a Post-It and made a little note that read: Case Report: Please Do Not Set on Fire Until Read. --DC Day. and put it on the folder, and took solace in the fact that she had it in her own records, too.

"Not too obvious," Daisy assured him. "I think you just caught me at good moment; I've just spent the last week investigating something almost as crazy as the suggestion that Sam or Max would need a reason to set something on fire, so I'm just a bit sharp right now. It's nice to meet you, though, Kyle. Any previous experience with freelance work?"

Daisy's eyes drifted over toward her report.

"Neither do I," she admitted ruefully. "Hopefully serving justice and bettering mankind, though."

Hopefully. That's why she joined up, anyway, not wanting to miss any chances to do as much. And she decided right there that she was going to convince herself that the whole bit with the ball of twine bettered mankind in...some way. She'd figure out the details later.

Daisy considered the report again. She supposed one thing about the freelance work was that she didn't have the restriction about talking about her cases like she did with all the official business. And, besides, if Kyle was going to do this, he might as well be warned about what he could be in for.

If, you know, the fact that he was hired by a dog and a completely batshit rabbity thing wasn't hint enough.

"Someone was tampering with the world's biggest ball of twine," she told him. "I'm happy to report that I think he'll think twice before tampering with twine again."

I love my job, she repeated dedicatedly, desperately in her head, I love my job, I love my job...

"Yes," agreed Daisy, "but it probably also didn't make much of a difference in the world, either."

At least part of Daisy was able to acknowledge that it sure was something that that actually did make her feel better about it.

"There is that," she agreed. "And quite a deal more twine enthusiasts than I realized existed, too."

"Or if Sam or Max wind up burning all the documented evidence," added Daisy with a wry grin.

Well, not all. She had some very secure files.

Of course, they could probably blow those up if they really wanted, too.

Daisy opened her mouth to answer with that yes, but then hesitated, seeming to be struggling with something else, something a bit more...positive.

"I...wouldn't be surprised," she offered, "although I'll just hope that they'd think of of it, get distracted, and then go bugger off elsewhere. That's just as likely, I think."

Daisy gave Kyle a sympathetic smile, the sort that made her glad she was the on-call girl and spent her desk hours at the other police. The sane one. The one with cloned troopers that arrested wee tiny horsies and took calls from old ladies with problems with all their little china cat sculptures coming to life.

"At least you won't be bored."
