Chilly Boulder - Sunday Night

After making sure things were settled at Town Hall, Joan and Liir (and Makejoy, of course) snuck out and headed to Chilly Boulder for some ice cream before making their way back to the dorms.

"You know, I just realized you haven't eaten for two days. Maybe we should have gone for real food," she said.

"I was mostly glad that Makejoy knows to behave as that much chocolate would have done us both in," he said with a sigh and a shake of the head.

"Yeah, that would be a tough one to explain," she said.

"Well, it didn't happen and the only side effect was that I was bouncing around for nearly a week," he said with a smile.

Joan smiled. "Well, I'm glad about that."

They got their ice cream and found a small table.

He put his down with a satisfied sigh.

"So did I by any chance miss anything pleasant?"

"Not really," she said. "Everyone has been doing research or taking care of the people who were unconscious or whatever."

"No cupcake rains or bouncing Wombats or anything?"

He glanced around the shop and towards the door.

"I wouldn't put any number of things past this island."

"No, I think the island knew we wouldn't be able to enjoy it," Joan said. "Maybe this week we'll get something fun."

"As long as it doesn't involve turning colors. I've had enough family reminders to last me ages," he said with a shake of his head before he took a bite of the ice cream, "but anything else might be nice."

Joan wasn't quite sure what he meant by the family reminders comment, but she also wasn't sure it was the best time to ask.

So she took a bite of her ice cream. Mmm caramel. "Good?" she asked.

He practically purred.

Yes, very good.

She smiled. It was nice to not be worrying about half of her friends. Even if she was still pissed at a certain deity.

Liir would probably join her if he was told. The Unnamed God had never really done much to guide his path either.

"How's your ice cream?"

"It's good," she said. "As is the company."

He ducked his head a little.

"I'll never understand how anyone finds me interesting. If there is a person more boring at our school, I've not met them."

"Seriously? Cause everyone around here flies on their broom," she pointed out.

"It was my mother's," he explained, "and flying is flying. It certainly doesn't help in conversation."

"But it makes you interesting," she insisted. "Plus, you know, you're just a nice person which also makes you nice to be around."

Liir also didn't think he was a particularly nice person, and his time in the other world certainly hadn't helped matters in that respect. But he nodded and gave a soft smile and took another bite of chocolate.

"I try."

"You succeed," she said. And she would be happy to argue that he was a nice person.

"...it's going to be rather odd to go back to class on Monday," he had to admit.

Joan nodded. "Yeah, you've had a long few days."

"Everyone has," he said pointedly, "don't think I'm not going to worry about you or Ino or Kate. No matter that you didn't show up over there."

"Rachel said she didn't think I had ever been there," Joan told him.

"I couldn't really say, but I don't recall any memories involving you. Or any number of others."
