The York Gallery; Tuesday [ 08/04 ].
Four. Days. Just four days, and Charlotte York would cease to be just Charlotte York, and become Charlotte York Cooper (it had such a distinguished ring to it, didn't it?) and she couldn't be sure if just four days seemed like forever or so not enough time. She reassured herself countless times that she'd taken care of everything she possibly could last week, and now it was just a matter of waiting, and finishing up some work before taking a week off for the honeymoon.
It wasn't normally a day that the gallery was open, and it wasn't (open, that is), but Charlotte was down at the desk doing some last minute work, anyway, frowning and puzzling as she tried to decide whether to keep it open while she was gone, or just give it a minor close while she and Dale were in St. Lucia, which would give the girls a bit of a vacation, although she definitely trusted that they could handle the place on her own. But she knew that if she kept it open, she'd want to call and check in and maybe even work, but it was supposed to be her honeymoon and she should enjoy it.
Just four days. Oh, God, there was just so mu--
Charlotte was distracted by the nudge of a wet nose against her knee, and she stopped what she was doing to look down at Elizabeth Taylor's soulful eyes looking up at her sadly. "Oh, yeeeeeesh," Charlotte cooed, reaching down to scritch behind the dogs ears, "you are so excited for the wedding, too, aren't you, sweetie? You are going to just look so cute! And then you can spend a nice vacation with Aunt Carrie while Mommy and Daddy go on their honeymoon, aren't you? Yes! Yes you aaaaaare."
Poor dog, never got any attention.

"Charlotte!" he called out cheerfully. "I've just received some fantastic news."

But she was a little wary, because sometimes Dale's perception of fantastic news could be a little...well, not aligned with her own, she'll say.
"Dale! What is it?"

Which was just a way of saying You better be asking for the reasons I think you're asking without actually saying that.

"So, you mean...?"

Which meant that poor Dale's ear drums were probably suffering another beating that they were probably growing fairly accustomed to and poor Elizabeth Taylor was subjected to even more with her sensitive canine hearing and went whimpering under the desk as Charlotte flung her arms around Dale.
"Ohmygod, Dale! You really mean it?"
no subject
"Of course!" Dale said putting his arms around his bride-to-be. "As much as I love this island, I want us to have a family and to be safe. And while New York is... well New York? At least it doesn't get invaded."

And, man, she loved that word. Perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect.

Which, of course, meant at least another kiss to better express how much approval.

"Does this mean I don't have to get you a wedding gift?" he teased.
