The Holiday Grove, Friday August 14th

Today the store wasn't being run by a very tall male skeleton who had a penchant for breaking into song.

Today, there was a female corpse, dressed in the tatters of a wedding gown, and she apparently had a penchant for suddenly dancing about the shelves.

The Help Wanted sign remained in the window, although it was amended to read Shifts Available Tuesdays and Thursdays. Jack wasn't so silly as to think that teenagers wanted to work weekends, after all.

The Holiday Grove is open.

She might ask you to dance with her, though!

It was a highly amused Joan who finally made her way to the shop. Of course, she had no way of knowing that the island's latest bout of insanity had extended to one of the newest residents.

"Hi," she said. "I'm looking for some decorations for a luau themed party."

"A luau! Why, how fun," Jack exclaimed, spinning around Joan. "All of the theme directions are down that aisle, and the luau items should be about halfway down."

"I hope so," Joan said. "Thanks."

She wandered down the aisle and filled a basket with appropriate decorations.

It didn't take her long to shop and she returned to the counter and smiled at the woman. Her appearance was... odd, but not terribly so given that it was Fandom.

"You're new in town?" she asked.

"Yes, just arrived this week," she said. "I'm Jack Skellington. Although today I appear to be someone completely different! How marvelous is that?"

Jack got enthused about all the wrong things.

Joan blinked. "Wait. You're usually a guy? And you just got to Fandom and you're not freaked out by this?"

That was seriously impressive, in her book.

"Usually, yes!" Jack grinned. "But usually I only have just my bones. Today I have flesh. And hair!" He tossed his head.

Give Joan a minute to process that.

"Um... well. Fandom is kind of a weird place."

Which was obvious.

"No stranger than my hometown," Jack replied. And, because Joan needed a healthy cup of nightmare fuel, he added, "There are no clowns with tearaway faces here. None that I've found, anyway!"

"Clowns are creepy," Joan said.

Almost as creepy as koala bears in hats.

"Ah, so that's why he was there," Jack said. "I forget that you humans have such funny fears sometimes!"

"That's why who was where?" Joan asked.

"The clown with the tearaway face," Jack replied, "and in Halloween Town. That's my home!"

He wasn't going to mention the whole "Pumpkin King" bit just yet.

"Halloween Town? Can't say I've ever heard of it," Joan admitted.

"Well, humans aren't supposed to. In all truth, we're not even supposed to know about the other holidays, either. It's just supposed to be our holiday and the human world."

But who had blown that theory to smithereens, hmm, Jack?

There was definitely a confused human listening to him now.

"So... your town is responsible for Halloween?"

"Exactly!" Jack stood a little straighter and tried to look more dignified. "And I am Halloween Town's Pumpkin King."

Ah well, it had to be announced sometime.

"That's.... cool," Joan said. Not that she had any idea what a Pumpkin King did.

"Listen to me, babbling on about myself. Are you all set to check out?"

"Oh, yes, thank you," Joan said, putting her basket on the counter. "I found everything I needed."

"Very good!" Jack checked her out. "I hope you enjoy your party."

"Thanks!" Joan said. "And, uh, welcome to Fandom."

If you can even reach anything with Jack dancing about.

Sally was too obvious, hence why Jack's gender bender PB is Emily, aka the Corpse Bride.

Yes, I have a thing for Tim Burton movies, especially the animated ones.
