Dite's Decadent Delights, Tuesday Afternoon

When Raven opened the shop for the day, she was must assuredly not looking around to see if there were things from Liir's book for sale in the shop. But she did come across one item that had her quite puzzled. It looked like a tool she had seen tailors on Azarath use to transfer markings from a pattern on to fabric. But what was it doing in the store?

Hannibal thought it a crime that he hadn't been to this store yet so, with nothing going on for him today, he slipped inside to check things. When he recognized Rachel from the ballpit, he gave her a wave.

Raven waved back, blushing. There were many things she was curious about her fellow students. What they might want from this shop was not one of them.

"I didn't know you worked here," he said, wandering closer to the counter. "Of course, I didn't ask so that's on me. You work here?"

See, there was the asking.

"I do," Raven said, ducking her head so he wouldn't see how pink she was turning. "Lady Aphrodite told me she wanted me to work here, and I cannot question the will of a goddess."

The poor girl still didn't know Katchoo had set this up.

"Well, you could, it just probably wouldn't be wise," he joked, noticing the slight discomfort she seemed to be feeling. "I'm...gonna guess that it's not your first choice of places to work?"

"I suppose that is obvious," Raven said. "I have no experience with the items sold here. I think perhaps Lady Aphrodite wished to educate me, but I am unsure as to why."

"You don't think you'll want to do...things that are sort of associated with this stuff in the future?" he asked, trying to both keep it clean and not be too pressing since they'd only met once before.

"I do not know," Raven admitted. "I am undecided at this time if I should continue to experiment with expressing my emotions." And even if she did proceed with allowing herself emotions, that didn't mean sex. And sex didn't mean that she would be Mistress Raven, Lady of Pain, no matter what Liir seemed to think.

Hannibal nodded ~~while his mun choked on her drink when she laughed~~ and said, "You were doing okay the other day. In the ballpit. That was fun, right?"

~~Then my work here is done.~~

"I was, yes," Raven said, fidgeting with her rings. "And it was enjoyable. But I have made mistakes since then that have me second guessing myself."

"Oh?" He'd heard the radio, yes, but he figured he'd just smack Chuck's head for that. "Everyone makes mistakes though. Fact of life. Just means learning from them and adapting."

Raven would not condone any head-smacking. Not out loud, at least. Privately, she might smile, just a little.

"I do not have the experience that you and others have to draw upon," she said. "My mistakes may be more dangerous than a normal person's."

"Yeah, I suck at remembering the different cultures thing," he said apologetically. "Wanna know the stupidest mistake I ever made? Though I could fly, jumped out of a tree, broke an arm. Never gonna do that again."

"You must have been just a child then," Raven said ~~and refrained from pointing out that at least he did not jump and fall on Chuck Bass omg~~. "Was there a reason you thought you could fly, or just a child's imagination?"

"Child's imagination," he said and shrugged. "And because I got really damn bored sometimes. Thought, if I could make myself fly, I'd have more fun and get in less trouble."

"I do sometimes wonder what I would be like now if I was allowed to play as a child," Raven said, just a tad wistful. "But I was never bored. I was always training and studying."

"You can always make up for the lack of playing here," he noted. "I mean, there was a ballpit, after all. I bet you'd do pretty well in a water balloon fight too."

"I have never participated in such a thing," Raven said. "But it sounds as if it would be refreshing on a hot day. Perhaps you should arrange one."

"I might," he said because now he was thinking about it. "And it is refreshing. Fun too."

He glanced around the store, checking things out idly.

"Wonder if I should get something for Angela," he said. "Bet I could make her blush with some of this stuff."

"I do not think I have met Angela," Raven said, "so I could not say for sure. I can tell you what have been popular items, however." She pointed to display of leather cuffs with fur lining. "The...restraints...sell well." Aaaand the blushing was back.

"You should meet Angela," he said, grinning and wandering over to that display to finger the cuffs. "But I tell everyone that. I can see how these would be fun and a lot handier than what I have."

"Our paths have not yet crossed," Raven said. "What floor does she live on?" She couldn't comment on the fun part of the cuffs. At least not yet.

"Fourth," he said and grinned back at Rachel. "Same room as me. We, uh, didn't plan that or anything. We started out as just roommates and kind of grew into more over like a year's worth of time."

"You are very fortunate then," Raven said, allowing herself a small smile. "I can sense your affection for her."

"You can?" he asked. She wasn't wrong, he just didn't know he was giving it away so much. Man, he was such a sap. "And here I thought, I was being stoic like a bull."

Except he'd come in to buy something for her and talked about her and really just given himself away.

"Did I not tell you I am an empath?" Raven said, though even if she were not, Hannibal's words and actions would have given him away. "I am able to sense feelings and pains from others, and draw them into myself to heal them. When I first arrived at Fandom I was overwhelmed by all the strong emotions here, but Professor Skywalker has been helping me shield myself from all the -- I think the best description would be 'background noise' -- around me."

"Oh!" Okay, that made sense. "I didn't know but I'm not surprised. There's a lot of people like that here, I think. As cool as that sounds, I can't imagine what it must be like to feel everything like that. Difficult to say the least."

Raven nodded. "As I said, I was overwhelmed when I first arrived in Fandom. Those of Azarath have forsaken most of their emotions, so even with my sensitivity I was not exposed to such powerful feelings. I do not try to eavesdrop on the private emotions of others, but here most everyone has such passionate hearts that I had difficulty with the feelings of others affecting my own actions. But there have been many here who have aided me, and I am grateful for that."

Go ahead, ask her about the Anakin Skywalker Fan Club. She could probably go on in great detail about how fabulous he was.

"See, you might say you're worried about mistakes but you are adjusting," he said, nodding. "Maybe it's just a longer process with you since you've gotta learn to control all that before things aren't so dangerous?"

"I have opened myself to emotions too quickly," Raven agreed. "I must find a middle ground between denying myself and letting my emotions consume me. I do not wish to harm anyone with my experimentation, however." Or sleep with suave bastards like Chuck, but that went without saying, really.

"Oh, I know you don't," he replied with a nod. "I can tell that just by talking to you. I don't have any really useful advice for you which sucks. Start small and work up from there?"

"That is the best advice, I think, if I am to continue," Raven said. "Please do not think you do not have any useful words. The more people I speak to of this, the better."

"Learning through osmosis," he joked, browsing a few more aisles for something interesting. "And you're one up on a lot of people because you wanna learn. Some people don't wanna."

"Having tasted emotions, it is difficult to imagine resigning myself to resume denying them," Raven said, nodding. "I would much rather learn to express them, but control them as well."

"It'll come," he said confidently and decided on the leather cuffs and some oils. "And if you ever wanna have fun, you can just come find me. Ballpit is great for that."

"Thank you," Raven said ~~after surfacing from being sucked into the ooc meme~~. "I shall definitely keep that in mind."

She glanced at his selections. "Will that be all you require?"
