Book Haven, Monday

Here it was, Monday once more. By next week, Miss Elizabeth Bennet would be a teacher again. She tidied up the shop as best she could. She would miss being surrounded by books, she had to confess, but she missed her students even more so.

Valentine had decided that she needed some new books to plow through and she knew she could just go to the library, but it wasn't quite the same when you had to return them. So she browse the shelves a little bit and then couldn't quite make a decision, so decided to get an opinion.

"Excuse me," she approached the woman appearing to be working. "If you don't mind, I'd like to ask...which might you choose if you had to pick between dead philosophers (http://www.amazon.com/Book-Dead-Philosophers-ebook/dp/B001NLL80G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251163640&sr=8-3)," she held up the one book, "or dead physicists (http://www.amazon.com/Physicists-Friedrich-Durrenmatt/dp/0802150888/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251163728&sr=8-2)?" and the other.

Valentine grinned a little. She knew she wouldn't regret asking. "That's very true," she agreed. "But they say fact is stranger than fiction, right? And not knowing something is a good reason to choose that over what's familiar. I think I might just solve the issue completely by just getting both."

"I wouldn't be against letting anyone borrow them when I'm done, either," Valentine offered. "A bibliophile working in a book store? If you actually get any work done, I'm not sure I can believe you."

Valentine grinned, nodding knowingly. "Get the work done first," she said, "avoid suspicion. I see."

"Oh, hey," said Valentine, "if it's your last day, you could probably give me a discount to the same effect, too, right?"

It was worth a shot.

"Fair enough," Valentine grinned. "I thought it was worth a try. And your employer is losing out on a very honest employee, I have to admit."
