Dinah was looking through more seed catalogs today, for easy grasses to grow, but kept getting distracted by the orchids and exotics. Preeeeetty. Also going through and price-gunning again.

It felt like a long time since he had spoken to Dinah, so when Leto saw her in the flower shop as he was walking through the town he stopped and entered.

"Hello Dinah." He smiled, walking up to the counter.

"Leto, hey!" Ka-CHUNK! Dinah put the price gun down and grinned as Leto walked in. "How's break week treating you? Want to buy a cactus?"

"A cactus?" He looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "And it's been an interesting week. Kate invited me with her to visit her home." Well, he had invited himself, but never mind. "And how have you been?"

"Good. Kate, really?" Wow, sounded like Kate got over what Dinah told her. Whew. "Where does she live? And I took a couple people home to New Gotham for a day-trip, we had a blast. Next time you should come along." She leaned n the counter and pointed to the cactus, eyes dancing. "Desert flowers?"

"A place called Overland Park," Leto replied. "And I know what a cactus is. You think I should want one?"

Yes, Leto. It's a plant from a desert. You should want one.

He smiled at Dinah. "And I'd love to visit your home. What did you do?"

"Hunh. What did you think of it?" Dinah asked, curious. She grinned at him, teasing. "It would brighten your room?" She picked up a watering can and gave the nearest orchid a drink. "Let's see, ate food that Alfred stuffed us with, yum, hit Amusement Mile and all the rides and games on the boardwalk, and borrowed Helena's motorcycle without asking." She winced. "Which would've worked out better if she hadn't checked the odometer when she got home. Who does that?" People who love their bikes too much, that's who.

"Perhaps she cares about her vehicle?" Leto suggested, having some understanding for this sentiment. "And it was quite interesting. I met her family and successfully avoided to say anything that might make them suspicious. We ate plenty of cookies and muffins, went to the mall and then there was bowling with her family." All this had been terribly exotic of course!

"Does my room need brightening?"

"It's a guys room, it could always stand more color." She grinned. "And it might annoy your roommate, but that's up to you." Dinah tilted her head. "So they don't know what this place is really like? And you did a weekend under-cover? Go you! Are you guys... dating or whatever?" Just curious this time. Not worried. Really. Okay, maybe a little, although Dinah couldn't even tell you why.

"Now that's a thought." Leto grinned at the mention of annoying his roommate. "I'll have one."

He added: "And no, they don't. I think Kate doesn't want to worry them. And I don't believe we are, at least not in the sense you mean." He shrugged lightly. "Or perhaps we are. How do I know? Either way, I did tell her I won't make promises to anyone."

Dinah grinned. "What color? Pink, orange, red..." She found a spiny one (http://www.cepolina.com/freephoto/f/nature.flowers/cactus.flower.pink.jpg) with pink-gold flowers and held it up. "This?"

"And that's good." She tilted her head. "I'm glad I told my family the truth about this place, but they're used to a certain amount of weird. Kate seems pretty normal, not that that's any guarantee." She quirked her lips at Leto. "And yeah. Up front is best."

"It's beautiful." He smiled at Dinah. "And I trust your judgement."

"Normal is a matter of definition. But I think I managed not to confuse them too much." He gave her a smirk. "And up front is a matter of definition too, by the way."

"Sometimes I wish we all came with little coded pins or hair colors so we could just look at someone and know if they already had a boyfriend or girlfriend." Dinah wrinkled her nose. "Although I guess we'd miss out on some stuff, too." Grinning, she price-checked the cactus. "Not too much? Did they ask about your eyes?"

"I claimed I was wearing contacts," he said. "And as I said, a matter of definition. Not everyone insists on making those kinds of promises."

Dinah put the cactus in a little bag, along with the instruction manual, and grinned. "But we could even code for that! Pink for boyfriend, blue for girlfriend, purple for both, orange for neither, red for nothing serious, silver for defying all definitions...."

"Or we could just ask," Leto pointed out, grinning back. He took the bag. "And you really think this will annoy Arthur?"

"It's a flower. With spikes. He'll either hate it on sight or decide to make a weapon out of it," Dinah said, leaning against the counter. "And either way, lots of new people coming in on Saturday, to wonder about and ask," she teased him. "And explain how there are no definitions."

He raised an eyebrow. "You were the one asking for definitions, not I."

"No definitions for you, Leto." Dinah shook her head, then looked curious. "That hasn't changed, has it?"

"What hasn't?" he asked.

Dinah perched her chin on her hand, studying him. "Not wanting anything permanent. Or not seeing the point?" She thought of her recent conversation with Karla, about Arthur's political marriage probabilities, and said, "Since the politics haven't changed or anything, I'm guessing." Leto being in the same boat. "And we really don't have a lot of time left here now." Woe!

"No," he said, smiling. "That hasn't changed. Why?"

"Just curious, mostly." Although it did mean she didn't regret what didn't happen. No one had changed his mind for him yet. "And..." Dinah studied Leto, thinking of what happened in the Other Fandom. "Have you got time to come by my room sometime soon? Talk about some stuff?" She fidgeted with one of the tiger lilies. "It's a little too private to talk about with squirrels around."

He frowned a little. "Of course. Dinah, has anything happened?"

"No, nothing new. Just... some stuff Karla and I should've told you a while ago, maybe." She didn't want to make a huge deal about it, but Karla deserved to be there when he heard this too. "And it would just be nice. I'll bring cookies."

"Of course," he repeated, an expression of concern still on his face. "How is Karla?"

[bedtime!]

"She's doing okay. We had a good time in New Gotham." Good enough that talking about VampireWorld probably was far enough in the past now. "She even wove a web to scare criminals with for part of the city. We'll see if it sticks." Dinah smiled. "Don't worry. It's..." Nothing terrible? "Just something to talk about."

He smiled again, hiding whatever concern he still had. "Then I will see you both later." He turned to leave.

"Bye Leto. See you soon." Dinah grinned. "Tell me if Arthur likes the flower."

He grinned back as he headed towards the will. "I'll let you know."
