Dite's Decadent Delights; Friday [ 08/28 ].

Valentine was still trying to fish out, if you will, a reason why the fish came about as a promotion. Maybe it was an aphrodisiac sort of thing? She didn't really try to evaluate it too much because she was feeling fairly lazy today, and, besides, it would be kind of nice to have some fish to watch swim around in the tank when she got bored with finding random stuff to put out on the counter to display just how weird some people's libidos could be.

Of course, that didn't stop Valentine from sticking to the theme. Not only had she found a friend for the vibrator being offered as a prize, but she had found many other sea-themed toys to bring it all together a little more.

The water theme even allowed her to find something new for torturing Turtle.

Leto had noticed the shop before, but he had never actually been inside. Now, as he entered, he saw Valentine there and smiled at her. "Hello. I didn't know you worked here," he said.

"Leto," Valentine smiled back as she looked up from her book. "It's a been a while."

But how could she ever truly forget the Face that inspired a thousand Bitchfaces in the studio?

"I didn't know you shopped here," she added, turning his greeting around with a faint tilt of her head.

Leto was of course blissfully unaware of any bitchfaces in the studio. He wasn't even aware that Valentine and Turtle did radio together.

"So it has. How are you?" He glanced around the shop. "I've never been here before, so I can't really claim to be a regular customer."

Which was a shame. They were really all very superb bitchfaces. Superb.

"I've been well, thanks," Valentine said, watching Leto's face as he looked around, interested to see what kind of reaction he had but having a hunch that it wouldn't be anything to write home about. "I guess that means I should give you the first timer's welcome. So. Welcome. Might we interest you in something that vibrates? Or how about something that creatively goes into orifices?"

She really knew how to make some of this sound fun, didn't she?

"Or maybe you'd just like to vote on a fish and get this really cool....bath toy."

He grinned at Valentine. "Are those the only options? I'm not sure I have the need for either, but you are welcome to try and convince me otherwise." He was actually curious to see what Valentine would come up with in order to try and sell something.

It wasn't like he wasn't aware of the existence of sex toys. They just weren't a big thing among the Fremen.

"Vote on fish?"

Who did he think she was? Turtle? Valentine held up her hands. "Hey, far be it from me to try to push things for every hole on people who don't need them," she said, "but, of course, there's a lot more, if you want to look around. Those things just seem to be the most popular. And, yes. Vote on fish. I still have no idea what Aphrodite was thinking as far as the fish go, but she did get this nice tank and I think it'll be kind of fun to have a little pet swimming around. It looks like she's thinking of three different kinds," at which point Valentine showed Leto the pictures, "and if you vote, she's got these vibrating fish to hand out for the trouble."

It only just then occurred to Valentine that she was far more interested in the fish than actually selling any of the merchandise. But the merchandise was mostly artificial and battery run. A fish would be something alive, and therefor significantly more interesting.

Leto might have a look around, but he had a feeling he wouldn't find anything he needed to buy.

"I can vote on fish," he said. "But I'm not sure I need a vibrating one. I suppose I could give it awat as a gift though." But to who?

Valentine shrugged. "That's an idea," she said.

And, because even she sometimes had a little streak of evil in her, she offered, "Maybe Turtle could use one."

If anything, Turtle could probably find a way to sell it.

Leto had to laugh at that. "If I gave her a vibrating fish, I believe she would attempt to kick me quite badly," he said. "But I will take your suggestion in consideration. Although I have to admit that giving it to any woman is a little bit of a risk. It might be misinterpreted."

He looked at the fish. "I vote for the Red Lion Fish. Have you voted yourself?" Yes, he was smirking at Valentine.

"Good choice. And I have," Valentine said, nodding. "Which means I have my own vibrating fish, otherwise I'd offer to take yours. In the meantime, if you do offer it to a woman and she gets upset, I think you'd be safe in telling them that they've just got a dirty mind."

"I meant more along the lines of suggesting that she needs one might be implicating that I don't think her capable of finding a lover, or that she seriously needs to get laid." He shrugged. "I could just give it to my stepmother. She keeps giving me hats."

Well. She did, in Valentine's opinion. But, then again, Valentine was already in the habit of bringing Turtle things from the store, so she might just be immune.

However, Leto was making the suggestion that this gift was more appropriate for his stepmother than for a girl of his acquaintance, and that was just much, much more intriguing. Valentine didn't bother suppressing a grin, and took a moment to note whether or not Leto was, in fact, wearing a hat.

"Now there's be an exchange," she said.

Turtle might react differently to being given a vibrating toy from Leto, though. And as they had agreed to meet up for dinner - which certainly wasn't a date - Leto was reluctant to take that risk.

Also, it could be noted that Leto wasn't wearing a hat. In fact, he never wore hats.

"Well, I did sign her up for the three minute dates. I'm sure Irulan would just tell me I'm incorrigible, as usual." He thought for a moment. "Also, wouldn't giving a vibrating toy to a woman you wouldn't mind getting to know better give the wrong message? Or be a sign of laziness?"

As Valentine didn't seem easily embarrassed, Leto considered this a safe topic.

Valentine snorted. "It might," she agreed, "but my whole point is that it's not your fault if they interpret it that way. For all they know, you just thought it was something neat. I mean, it is kind of cute. Could be completely innocent to the unknowing eye..."

"Certainly not my fault, but I would still have to deal with the consequences." He grinned. "Anticipating how someone will interpret or react to an action isn't the same as assuming responsibility. But I'm sure I can find a way to give a vibrating fish without upsetting the person receiving it." He paused. "Although I am curious why you suggested I give it to Turtle."

Valentine shrugged a little. "Easiest and most obvious common acquaintance," she said. "And I know how Turtle always responds when I bring her stuff like this, plus I know how she responds when you come up, too."

He raised an eyebrow. "And how does she respond when I come up?" Leto asked, curious.

Valentine held up her hands in a gesture of futility. "I am not even going to attempt to reproduce it," she said. "They are expressions that are pure Turtle and I don't dare to sully them by making feeble attempts to recreate them. But they're great."

He frowned. "And these come up when?" he had to ask.

The frown made Valentine's eyebrow lift a little with interest. "Usually whenever you show up in the squirrel notes for radio. Not always, though..."

"Oh, the radio! I rarely listen to it." That is to say, never. "So, are you telling me that Turtle makes odd faces when my name is mentioned?"

He had to admit he did consider this a good sign.

"Every so often," Valentine said, tilting her head a little bit, and deciding not to mention that Turtle, in generally, tended to be very expressive about a lot of things during radio, not just Leto.

Well, Leto might not need to know that.

"So, perhaps she does need a vibrating fish," he said with a smirk.

"I'm just saying," Valentine said with a laugh, "that what's the worse that can happen, right?"

And now she was thinking of the whole new slew of faces Turtle might make, and she realized the real reason she'd suggested it in the first place. Her own damn entertainment.

"That I get badly kicked," Leto replied. "And that she won't ever talk to me again." The latter would actually be worse.

And yes, he did notice that Valentine seemed to have her own agenda here.

Laughing a little, Valentine shook her head. "Now that'd be impressive. I probably haven't known Turtle as long as you have, but if you could get her to stop talking? Wow. And the kick'll always heal."

"That almost sounds like a challenge," Leto observed.

Valentine grinned. "If you want it to be, sure. I could use a little peace and quiet."

Because you're looking for things far less aquatic today, thanks.

And only after the fact do I think to look up vibrating turtles, but, on the plus side, I now know what next week's theme shall be.

Lollerskates, you have WAY TOO MUCH FUN doing this and I love it.

My dream is to one day inspire one of you to actually buy something thanks to this and then my laugh will be an evil laugh.
