Cafe Fina, Sunday
When Zack got to work, it was clear he was getting over a case of the sniffles that had sequestered him to his room yesterday. And not because he was actually sniffling. Oh, no. It was clear because he was pouting.
Wiggly little social butterfly that he was, it bugged him to no end that he'd missed the newbie picnic as a result. When he got sick, it was never for long. And there was only one newbie day a... semester.
Okay, so he didn't have long to wait until next time, really. It wasn't going to stop him from making cow-eyes until the staff let him change the specials board.
Today's Specials:
Share a story about your first day on the island, get your meal half-off!
The giant anthropomorphic singing dishes were way too good to Zack. They knew just as well as he did that this particular special was more for the sake of letting the kid meet people.
[OCD up! The OOC thread has an important note on the dishes, for those of you not yet in the know!]

Talk To Zack!
Re: Talk To Zack!
He'd just give it a shot.
Jak didn't as much poke his head in as walk, calmly and (in his estimation) heroically in through the doorway. He put one hand to his hip, and grinned. He'd arrived.
Re: Talk To Zack!
Zack perked up almost instantly and made a grab for a menu before bouncing over to greet the new kid!
"Hi there! Welcome to Cafe Fina! And welcome to Fandom Island too? I know I haven't seen you around. You kinda stand out, I think!" Coming from Zack, this was most probably a compliment. Honest. "How are you liking it here on the island so far? It can be a little weird sometimes, but that mostly adds to the charm, really! Here, I'll show you to your seat! I'm Zack!"
... He was making up for lost time, after missing the new kids yesterday. Could Jak tell?
Re: Talk To Zack!
Jak couldn't tell. Jak was embarrassingly familiar with people who talked like that, so he figured it was normal, rubbing the back of his head with a lightly puzzled - if smiling - expression on his face.
He padded into the cafe proper on Zack's instruction, making a gesture with his hand that was meant to imply that everything had been awesome so far, truly. (Hey, some of the people here were picking up on the way he communicated; not that it was such a big issue back home, since most people tended to intuit what he wanted anyway, but after walking down to the airport shuttle from where the gate had dumped him, Jak was a little wary. People had stared)
Re: Talk To Zack!
Honestly, now.
Really, the only time Zack would ever stare would be if Jak managed to say something to completely throw him for a loop. And... well... That probably wasn't very likely, even if Jak did talk.
"Good to know!" Awesome was... well... As a general rule, it was awesome. "So, have you come in for a full meal, or were you just looking at the desserts or something? If you want my recommendation, get a piece of cake to eat while you look at the rest of the menu. The dishes swear that's backwards, but it's so much better than just sitting around staring at a piece of paper, all hungry still."
Re: Talk To Zack!
Jak didn't get that. His goggles were useful. And cool.
Jak's face showed an awful lot of consideration at Zack's idea, and then he raised a single finger. He could do with that, actually. Cake sounded really good! He rubbed his stomach - he was really, really hungry.
Seriously. Being an eco channeler meant you burned a lot of energy in any given day, even without the eco.
Re: Talk To Zack!
"Awesome. Raspberry or chocolate?" Zack flipped the menu open to a page with the desserts on it, to show a picture of both.
They had options, at Fina!

And also, he was just still that massively thankful for the coffee that one time.
"How are you doing? New kids on the island, huh? And I totally missed it. Can I get you anything? The cake's good!"
Re: Talk To Zack!
"Hi to you, too," she said wryly with a grin, but then there was slight boggling. "You missed it, seriously? And really? Cake? What kind?"
AS IF IT MATTERED. Turtle hadn't had lunch yet, and cake was an excellent lunch.

Zack nodded, holding his arms open. He would never turn down a hug. especially not from a cute girl who looked tired.
"That sounds like quite the first day," he noted. "How are you doing today, Momoko? You look tired."
Observant Zack was observant.
Re: Talk To Zack!
"That was my first day here ever, and it was actually pretty awesome. Yesterday was just plain weird. Even for this place! My friend came back from vacation looking totally different but still he's the same person inside even if he looks like a grownup, and then later I walked in on my roommate and had to spend the night somewhere else and now I'll never be able to look her in the eyes again." She yawned. "Can it be a big piece of cake?"
Re: Talk To Zack!
At this rate, he'd run out of cake in no time flat!

"Hi," she said uncertainly. "Does it have to be a good story? I have a couple of stories, but they're not all that ... eventful."
Re: Talk To Zack!
"It can be whatever. My first day was pretty much a bunch of people telling me that the island was weird, and then the people at the weapons locker checking my sword. It doesn't have to be a riveting story or anything, honest."
It was Zack's sneaky sneaky way of making conversation. Yay, conversation!
Re: Talk To Zack!
Re: Talk To Zack!
"It could always be worse," he decided. "You at least got a bit of that doppelganger thing going on! I still haven't met anyone that looks like anyone else I know. This place picks and chooses, I think."
Re: Talk To Zack!
She gave him a wry smile. "I didn't want to be here, anyway, so it seemed a lot worse than it was. At least they had furnished apartments. I was seriously wondering if I'd have to sleep on the floor."

OOC
Or, really, some housekeeping notes on the dishes, because I like continuity and they're my fault to begin with.
This is your serving staff!
Yes! They are about the same size as you. They're also more or less human-shaped, except for the obvious fact that they are, indeed, also objects. They're from Disney's Beauty and the Beast Broadway production, which alters the curse so that they're slowly transforming into said objects.
I point this out because, even while I was playing Lumiere (who has since left), people kept tripping over this point and trying to eat off of these poor people. Which the Cheese Grater might enjoy, as he is a horndog, but the dynamics of putting one of these forks into your mouth kind of hurts my brain, and we likes the continuity, preciousssss.
