Mary had Gunther bring the coffeemaker out to the front desk, and she made an extra pot of coffee. She figured people could use some extra caffeine for the first week of classes.

Who is clinging to her coffee cup like it's a lifeline.

Having the restoration work almost complete had Tully feeling both restless, and nostalgic.

So he came to the hotel in search of a familiar surrounding, and a familiar face.

"Morning Mary." he smiled. "How've you been?"

"Not bad," said Mary. "Did you want a cup of coffee? I'm making a fresh pot."

"I'd love some thanks. What've you been up to?"

"Not a whole lot," said Mary. "It's been a pretty eventful summer, but I'm looking forward to a nice, quiet fall. I can't wait for those leaves to start changing colors. Did you want any cream or sugar with your coffee?"

"Just sugar, thanks. And that reminds me, I need to secure my boat pretty soon."

Mary poured a second cup of coffee for Tully, then topped off her cup as well. "I don't think I've ever really been sailing before, except for a party on a houseboat on Lake Mead. I'll bet you spent plenty of time on that boat over the summer," she said.

"Oh I did. It's only a skiff, a shallow water boat, but it's nice. Makes for a nice ride around the island. You wanna go?"

"Oooh, that might be a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon," said Mary. "I wouldn't mind trying it out. Just a short ride, though. I found myself getting seasick on the houseboat."

"I've got some dramamine. How about next Sunday?"

"Sunday would be great! I'll have Gunther pack a picnic lunch. Hopefully I'll even be able to eat some of it," said Mary, beaming. "How are things at the lighthouse? I heard Murdock was leaving town."

"Sounds like fun. Things are going well. Murdock timed his departure well. In a few weeks I'll have the light installed and I'll be all done."

"Are you going to have another party to show off the completed lighthouse?" asked Mary, smiling.

"I am." he nodded. "Light the light and everything. But before that, did you hear about the trip I'm organizing. I put out some ~~handwavy~~ flyers up."

"Something about a trip to Mexico, right? I only looked at it briefly before putting it back in my inbox," said Mary.

"That's the one. You don't even have to get on a boat there if you're seasick."

"When is the trip? If I can get my staff to cover for me, I should be able to go," said Mary.

"The 11th through the 13th."

Mary jotted the dates down on her clipboard. "I'll try to go if possible," she said.

"I hope you can make it. Have you ever been to the tropics?"

"Only the places that the island ended up last year," said Mary. "Before coming to Fandom, I really didn't travel that much."

"I came in at the tail end of that. What places did it go to?"

"Well, the tropical locations were places like Greece, Madagascar, Bali Hai, and the Caribbean," said Mary. "Then there was Antarctica."

Tully had never really thought of Greece as tropical. But then, he'd never been there either. "Antartica? That must have been weird. Was the island over run with penguins?"

Gunther will add a shot of schnapps to your coffee if you ask nicely.

Woo! First day of graduate school for me, so I'll be AFK after 5 PM. Well, technically, I'll have my laptop and wi-fi, but I probably won't be taking pings during class.
