As was his way, Dimitri was at Atlas early and ready to go. The ladies had shown him how to work the overhead music, which had the potential to make the people working out chagrin.

It may be better not to ask where the AC/DC CDs came from.

Her snark had come to be expected. "Okay, so tell me, Rose," he crossed his arms and studied her carefully. "Exactly what would you do if you and Lissa were out shopping and ran into a Strigoi?"

Yeah, that was pretty much necessary for them to get along.

"Stake 'em," she said instantly, bravado obvious even as she remembered Natalie and just how freaking fast she was.

He leaned forward, interested with raised eyebrows. "Oh? Do you have a silver stake or know how to use one if you did?"

It was almost fun to keep asking her questions.

Rose opened her mouth then shut it again. "I didn't realise we were talking for real," she said, making a face. "If I had one, I could use it."

...Maybe. She could remember how it had felt to stake the vampires in the other Fandom, but she wasn't sure it would carry over.

She took a breath, trying to figure out her options. "Get Lissa out of there." That was number one no matter what. "And then cut off its head."

Pleased that she was dabbling in the proper direction with her answer, he continued on. "Ignoring the fact that you don't have a weapon to do that, how will you compensate for the fact that he may be a foot taller than you?"

It was almost like Dimitri waited around all day thinking up these great questions, huh?

He probably did. Nobody could read that many Westerns.

Rose raised her eyebrows. "Same way I compensate for everyone being a foot taller. Be better."

She got a single eyebrow lift in return. "And on the off chance that you're not better, what happens then?"

"Exactly," he said, nodding. "Which is why I would hope you wouldn't consider all this running a waste of time."

He didn't know for sure, but he had his suspicions.

"But -" Rose tugged her fingers back through her hair in frustration. "It is when I'm just running all the time," she said. "I need to learn more. I can't protect her by running."

"I'm glad you noticed," Rose snarked. "I've been working on it." She nodded, shifting slightly. "What kinda time?"

"After classes?" Dimitri didn't know the hour of her latest class, but he knew he'd be at Atlas regardless.

"So like 2:30 today?" Rose checked. She was totally almost grinning which was way wrong considering she'd just signed more of her life away to him.

...okay, she didn't mind spending a lot of time with Dimitri.

"Yes, like 2:30 today," he agreed, a slight smile on his face. "But first you need to make it through some conditioning."
