The Perk [Tuesday evening]

While Remus, being Remus, had a teapot at home, he'd found that working at home was somewhat distracting tonight.

Such was the hazard of living with Sirius, who seemed to have only gotten more allergic to bookwork over the years.

While it was a touch late to go in to the office to go over his lesson plans for the next day, it was certainly a fine time for a cup of tea in the shop he'd seen in town. He found himself a table and sat down with his materials to go over what he knew was a fairly challenging lesson for thirteen year-old wizards, but might prove to be extremely difficult for teenage Muggles.

Mina stopped into the Perk for a late night coffee, and stopped when she saw the man with his material.

"Excuse me sir, may I interrupt?" she said, approaching respectfully.

Remus glanced up, putting his quill down. "By all means. Good evening."

"Are you a teacher at the school?" she asked. "Or is this private research of some kind? My curiosity is getting the better of me."

"I am!" Remus told her warmly, standing to offer a hand. "Remus Lupin. I teach a defense class."

Mina took his hand and shook it firmly. "Mina Murray, nurse at the local clinic. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir."

"And for me to make yours," Remus said, nodding. "Have you lived here long?"

"Nine months, I would say," Mina said. "It has been quite a unique experience."

"I'm beginning to gather that," Remus said dryly. "I just started this term, and already my students surprise me."

"May I ask your place of origin?" Mina said. "I myself come from London, but from some hundred years in the past."

And there went the eyebrow. "Most recently, Scotland, but I'm a fellow Briton by birth. Though from what I gather, I'm only about fifteen years ahead of my time."

"I have not spent time in Scotland," Mina said. "How is the weather there?"

A vampire and a werewolf, discussing the weather in the UK. How very British of them.

"Mostly rainy," Remus said thoughtfully. "My last school was located out that way, and I spent just under a year there. It was very cool and temperate and foggy. Exactly how it sounds in the stories. Fog on the moors and all that."

"Almost romantic," Mina said. "I always found such weather far more enchanting than tropical climes."

"More suited to pale British skin, if nothing else," Remus said with a little laugh. "Though it isn't terrible here, I must say."

"I have little to complain about," Mina said. "Though my own pale skin would not tan if my life depended on it, temperate climate or not." She chuckled.

"I'm fairly sure I've never really tanned, either," Remus assured her. "These sprays that the women are using today look ridiculous, too. Who would want to be orange?"

"Certainly not I," Mina said. "It would look ghastly."

"That's what I think," Remus said, nodding. "So I fail to fathom why it's done. It can't be vanity. It looks terrible."

"False vanity, perhaps," Mina said. "They believe others will think it comely."
