Vida was still in mourning, so of course she was stylishly dressed in black and wearing a hat with a mesh veil. She was also seeing what it would take to have a rose named for someone.

But he was in the shop, that morning

"Ooooh, very nice outfit," he said. "The black is very slimming."

"Why, thank you," Vida said, brightening. She stood up and turned in a circle. "I like a man who can appreciate good clothing."

"Me too," Vince said, smiling. "They're few and far between."

"Vida Boheme," Vida said, introducing herself. "But you probably know that if you read the sign outside."

"There's a sign outside?" Vince said.

"I'm Vince Noir. Rock and Roll Star."

"I am very pleased to meet you, Mr. Noir," Vida said. "What brings you to my shop today?"

"I want tulips. Lots of them," Vince said.

"Any particular color, pumpkin?" Vida asked.

"All of them!" Vince said. "I want to really wow this girl."

"Then I can definitely help you out there, sweet pea," Vida said. She walked over to the cooler and pulled a few bunches of tulips out, forming them into one large bouquet (http://i29.tinypic.com/oh362t.jpg). "What do you think of this?"

"Perfect!" Vince said. "Can I get them delivered?"

"When and where?" Vida asked.

"The Gig, tomorrow," Vince said. "They're for Dani."

"The Gig, Dani," Vida said as she wrote the information down. "What about a card, pumpkin? Or are these anonymous?"

"Oh, a big 'From Vince' would be brilliant," he said.

"Will that be all, sweet pea?" Vida said, starting to ring up the bouquet. "She'll love it, promise."

"How about the name of your tailor?" Vince said.

Vida laughed. "I know a few specialty shops tucked away in New York City," she said. "I can give you an address. Tell Ramon Vida sent you, and he'll make sure you're taken care of."

"Brilliant," Vince said. "I'm not much for dresses, but I know good workmanship when I see it."

"Rock and roll goes hand in hand with fashion," Vida said. She wrinkled her nose. "Unless it's that dreadful grunge look."

"Pretty awful, that," Vince said. "I've done punk before, and that at least has great accessories."

"Punk has its appeal," Vida agreed. "And it takes effort. Grunge just means not showering and wearing old flannel."
