Book Haven - Friday, 9/18

Liir decided that today, he was going to learn a skill. Inspired by a few of the craft books in the back, he'd picked up the supplies for crocheting and was currently attempting to make...

Well, it was round. Roundish. And the swirl was kind of interesting. He'd just have to see what came of it, anyway.

"Hey, Liir." Dinah wandered in after the Support Services meeting, and wandered in between the stacks. "Do you know where books on reading music would be?"

He slipped out from between the stacks.

"It's actually over this way," he said, pointing to another series of stacks.

"Are you taking up music lessons then?"

"Well, sort of?" Dinah followed him, pausing to pick up another Antonia Fraser novel on the way, then catching up to frown at the books he'd pointed to. "Jono pointed out to me that if I wanted to learn how to read music, there are books out there to show me how. I mean," she fidgeted, "It's not like I want to turn pro, or anything. But. Still."

"What do you play?" he asked as he started scanning through the aisles.

Dinah turned pinker. "I don't. I sing." She sighed, wondering if this was a dumb idea-- but no. Jono didn't even have a voice, and he still made music. "And, well. It's fun. And I figure I can show it to my friend Shilo, she's a singer too, if it's a useful book."

"Shilo?" he asked with a lift of his head.

"I didn't know you were friends," he had to admit with a little smile.

"Yup! You're friends with her too? She was in a couple of my classes. Sweet girl. Have you heard her sing?" Dinah asked, and smiled. "God, she's got a voice." Standing on tip-toe, she looked at some of the books on learning to read music. "So what have you been up to lately?"

He shook his head.

"I haven't heard her sing, no, but I did show her how to play gooseball the other day. Well, some of it."

He pulled out book he thought would be the most useful, a beginner's text.

"And not much, really. Working through a few things. Mostly spending time in my room and Joan's."

"Cool. You and Joan?" Dinah checked, having heard stuff on the Radio, but never sure how much to believe. "Dating-ness?"

He blushed a little but gave a nod after a moment.

"In our own way, yes, I suppose."

"Awww. Yay." Dinah grinned at him, glad he was dating again after Amber left. Which reminded her of something else, while she fiddled with one book (http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Read-Music-Softcover-Various/dp/0671210270). "Hey, did you ever want another escapology lesson?"

That made him perk up.

"Yes, actually. If you wouldn't mind teaching. And, er, would you ever like another cooking lesson?"

"Sure! I need to be able to make more than one dish, right?" Dinah grinned. "And, um. If it would be weird, or awkward, or make you feel better, you should bring Joan along. Amber wanted to be there for the next lesson in case it got weird for you. Another person's welcome too."

He laughed a little.

"I'll ask her about it. I... don't think Joan will be so bothered. Possibly. Best I ask, really."

"Cool. Maybe Sunday, if you're not working?" Dinah handed over the first book, and another one. "I need the practice myself."

"I work Wednesdays and Fridays," he told her with a quick grin.

"Sunday is free."

He certainly wasn't at Fight Club.

"Cool." She was not going to be weirded out by restraints; and she was gonna help someone else get out of them. Definitely cool. "Sunday, unless stuff comes up OOC. Aaaand." She looked around, thoughtful. "A cook book?"

"You can borrow one of mine. Best not to spend money on something unnecessarily, especially before we know what you're comfortable with. We'll look through what I've got and see if anything calls to you."

"Yay. Thanks, Liir." Dinah grinned at him and headed for the front counter, bouncing a little. "You're still doing catering for the play, right?"

"There were muffins, weren't there?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yup, but it's always good to check," Dinah said, getting out her wallet with a smile, and fishing out a twenty. "Horrible Darren might've shown up to steal 'em all."

He shuddered with a great deal of irritation.

"...if that man ever comes back, I'll... probably regret it, but suffice to say, I won't do kindly by him."

He took the money from her and rang her out, putting her book in a bag.

"Even Makejoy didn't like him."

"And your puppy has great perception," Dinah agreed. "And you, me, and the entire cast. I'm still sad I didn't get to see Geoffrey skewer him," she mourned, taking her bag.

"...Geoffrey stabbed him?"

He hadn't heard. He wished he had.

"I missed it as well, though."

"Aww. Well, he challenged him to a duel, and then pummeled him, and then Darren cried not to break his face, and then Geoffrey kicked him out," Dinah said with relish. "I was on the phone with Priestly and he let me hear the whole thing. It. Was. Epic."

"I'm terribly upset I missed it," he had to admit. While he didn't himself like to hit anyone, that didn't mean he couldn't enjoy a bit of schadenfreude.

"Yeeeaah. Me too." Dinah shook her head, then smiled at Liir. "Anyway. See you Sunday? If I don't see you around sooner."
