Atlas Gym - Saturday Afternoon

The gym wasn't empty when Rose (still in a bad mood) showed up for her afternoon training session, but it was empty of Dimitri.  She checked the clock to make sure she hadn't shown up too early or late then started to check through the gym to make sure this wasn't some sort of ambush-y training exercise.

Huh.  One missing teacher.  Maybe he had family show up.  And if he did, Rose so wanted to meet them.  She wasn't going to give up on her training though and be accused of slacking off by her mother so she started working the bag.  Possibly picturing a certain redhead's face on it as she did.

Janine had come down to the gym to speak with Belikov, and initially followed the sound of someone working over the punching bag.

Except that the diminutive figure in the gym was her daughter, and not the other Guardian. Of course not, that would be too easy.

Still, Janine leaned against a wall, content to watch Rose for now. She could get Belikov's opinion later.

And to think, Professor Bond had said such favorable things about Rose.

"Watch your tone," she sighed. "You might behave like you have no manners, but at least try not to sound so sullen."

No. Yes. Maybe.

Instead she grabbed some of the training mitts and tossed them at Rose. "Be quiet and put those on."

Janine didn't even look at her as she strode towards the center of the gym, already pulling back her own hair.

"Yes," she replied. "If Guardian Belikov is indisposed, we'll do basic offensive and defensive parrying using the lines."

"Well today we're doing this," she said, turning towards Rose and dropping into an attack stance.

Well, letting her find her footing would be silly. A Strigoi wasn't going to wait for a guardian to get ready before attacking.

Janine leapt at her, swinging. "As you seem so fond of telling me, I haven't seen you work, or know what you can do. So show me."

"Talk is cheap, Rosemarie," Janine fired back, pressing her advantage. "I said show me."

"This is my way of making you deal with that chip on your shoulder. You've had nothing but attitude for me since I got here. You want to fight?" Her fist shot out, aiming for Rose's shoulder. "Then fight."

"Mouthing off to me every time I try to speak with you isn't really what I'd call talking," she commented, throwing a double-strike at Rose's other arm. "Point and point."

"No, you're under the mistaken impression that you've been horribly wronged your entire life," she said, slamming a side-kick into Rose's hip. "Point. When in reality, you've been treated the same as every other dhampir."

"Better, actually." Another hit. "Point. I could have sent you off to live with my cousins. Is that what you wanted, to be a blood whore?"

"Does it matter?" she asked, blocking the kick and using the opening to score another hit. "Point. They bring that reputation on themselves. They should be doing duty as guardians, not flitting about and having flings with Moroi."

Janine's face tightened, and she whirled around, snapping a kick to the small of Rose's back.

"That," she said tightly, "is something you know absolutely nothing about. Point."

"Rosemarie," she warned through gritted teeth, "for once in your life, shut up. Now."

Janine's fist flew straight and hard, and the next thing she knew, Rose was flying backwards, right over the lines before landing -- hard -- with a sickening crack.

Oh god. No.

"Rose?"

"Rose? Rose? Are you okay?" Janine asked, running over to kneel beside her.

She turned her head to look over her shoulder. "Someone get the first aid kit and an ice pack!" she called.

"Hitting people on purpose is generally the point of sparring," she pointed out distractedly. "You practically fell into that hit."

"Don't sit up, Rose! Wait for the ice!"

"Lie down, Rose," Janine repeated, her distress leaking into her tone a bit more. Where was that damn ice? "You can stomp out dramatically in a moment, okay? Let's make sure you aren't concussed first."

Well, wouldn't want to be lazy, right? Few slugs against the heavy bag would help with the migraine of just being on the same island as Mannin.

He pulled his shirt off and rolled his shoulders, trying to relax that tension there. Yeah. Definitely needed to hit things.
