Luke's Diner, Sunday

Kyle wasn't used to being in on a Sunday, but there was no way the boys were going to pass up the opportunity to take their guests to their usual hang-out.

No, they didn't have any mangoes today. Someone in the kitchen staff thought they were funny.

Kyle led Derek to Luke's, which actually wasn't far at all from where they'd run into each other. "That's our booth," he pointed out. They were probably going to need an extra chair depending on who showed up.

They were out of the crowd of the brunch, and Derek was less on edge without the masses of people pressing in on him. He nodded, half-amused that it was 'theirs.'

"Is it still your booth on a Sunday?" he asked, keeping a straight face. "Or just Mondays."

"It's always our booth," he replied with a slight roll of his eyes, remembering what it was like to be teased by his brother. "But we usually only use it on Mondays."

"Hey," Bobby gave the kinda-intimidating guy a wave. He was with Kyle, so he must be cool, intimidating-looking or not.

It wasn't hard for Derek to immediately like the two boys Kyle was obviously so relaxed around, and he relaxed enough to nod back at the kid. "Bobby, right? I'm Derek Reese, Kyle's brother."

Bobby, meanwhile, had Warren and Scott in tow.

"This is Lac- uh, Luke's," Bobby corrected himself as he made his way to the usual booth.

"What were you about to call it?" Scott asked curiously.

"Lacey's," Bobby said, looking a bit sheepish. "She's the um, lady who runs the place. But it's called Luke's after someone that she doesn't even know." He'd totally almost said 'lass' instead of 'lady'. All George's fault.

"It sounds like the diner's an island institution," Scott said. "So it's pretty nice of her to keep the name."

"Oh, you had to bring that up," Bobby said with mock exasperation. "George, this is Scott and Warren who will be here as soon as the player finishes linkdropping," he introduced, pointing to each of them in turn.

Warren gave Bobby a flash of a grin and he shook his head a little as he looked around.

"Not bad," he decided. "Not bad at all. But not the place with the coffee that you were talking about. I still want to see if their Americano is any good."

"Lacey has coffee," Bobby said defensively. "It's just not your weird fancy coffee. But we can hit up the Perk later."

"Don't be quizzing them all, mother," George said, accent more modulated than ever as he drew his mother into the diner. "They're my friends, aye."

It was all Eleni could do not to sigh at the flip-flopping accent. "Friends like Beka Cooper?"

George cast Kyle a look of 'save me please' and latched onto the question, ignoring the big guy over Kyle's shoulder for now.

"Jus' telling my mother a bit about the island," he said quickly before Eleni could say anything. He knew he mother well enough that she wouldn't be angry in front of strangers and started the introductions at once. "Mother, this is my friend, Kyle Reese. Kyle, my mother Mistress Cooper."
